No love for Ed Moran? 2:11:46 and he started training for the marathon for kicks...

A very good performance. It would set him up for a very good Olympic shot in the marathon. As it stands now, he's #7

However, I'd say New York is way harder than many of those other courses. At the worse, I'd say his performance is equivalent to the 5th best showing by a US man recently (certainly sub 2:11 in Chicago or Houston and maybe even better than Ritz's 2:10:00).

Seriously, he could have the inside track to #3.

That being said, he told us after the race he isn't doing the OTrials. He's getting married next weekend in Pittsburgh and going on his honey moon and he has agreed to do no running on the honeymoon.

I think he needs to re-evaluate. No running is fine. Take a 3 week break but why not try to get in shape after the honeymoon.

Yeah, it was a good run. He is a talented, lightweight, and efficient runner who is wasting his best years on the track. This performance should not surprise anyone. Certainly a good run, wish he would race the longer stuff but understand if he doesn't enjoy it.

You do know that an agreement and a mandate are different, correct? Clearly you are not married. If you are, I feel sorry for your wife who has to put up with such a simple view of marriage.

Moran has a good head on his shoulders and seems to know what he is doing. I wish him the best.

I sure hope this was a decision he made, not realizing what kind of shape he was in. This needs to be reevaluated immediately. Moran stands a great chance of making the US Olympic Team now, an opportunity thats not likely to come again. He doesn't have the speed to get top 3 in the 5 or 10k anymore, especially because he's going to have to face not just guys like Rupp, Teg, and Solinsky, but a newly rejuvenated Ritz and Adam Goucher, who have both put in decent comeback performances, but won't be in good enough shape to be at the front of the OT Marathon.

He would be, if it wasn't 2011.

I just don't understand why he would choose to debut here and not in the trials. I understand he's getting married and all but a performance like this I think would have punched him a pretty good chance at the Olympics. On the track he's good but much more of an outsider looking in to getting top 3 in the 10 and certainly not a contender in the 5. I myself have a hard time believing that Meb can turn another performance like this in 10 weeks, Ritz is always a question mark too leaving Hall as the only real concrete guy. But then again, even he is coming off a late fall marathon. Guys after those 3 are pretty hit or miss too. Would the payday in NY for a 13:20/27:43 guy debuting be that substantial at all?

nope, he's a professional athlete

After listening to his interview on Flotrack it is clear how well he has his head on his shoulders. The most well spoken, articulate and personable interview I have seen for quite some time. Even though today is clearly a game-changer for him in terms of performance and will require some reevaluation, I'm confident he will make the right decision about his next competition or life event. Great job today Mr. Moran.

There are plenty of very successful professional athletes who care about other things then making the olympics. For example, the entire NFL seems to have different priorities.

Moran finished well. I was standing near the 23-mile mark and at that point he and Rothlin were just a second or two apsrt

In case you didn't get it - he ran NYC because he got an appearance fee to do it. Good for him, too.

This performance really puts him in line for an Olympic spot and he has to give it a try.

I'm sure he'll be running on the honeymoon when his agent tells him how much money he could make if he made the Olympic team.

I'd say 3 wks off is a bit much. Why not run the trials - he is also a long shot for the team in the 5 or 10. If he has a good day he ends up w/ a lifetime experience and who knows what else. If he is way out of it at 20 miles he can pull the plug w/ minimal damage, having had a good workout. If his wife to be really objects to his running (and is perhaps that controlling) trade her in and upgrade - after all, this is his means of support is it not. If only a hobby - albeit one he is pretty good at then do whatever.
