I did a 5k race today and I'm confused about how the run chip actually works. I started the race with 2 women that I met that morning, but I pulled away from them and finished about 5 minutes before them. When awards were being presented for age group, one of the ladies I started with (in my age group) won for our group. I'm confused because we started at the same time and I finished before her. I actually watched as she crossed the finish line after me. So how is it possible that her chip time was 5 minutes faster than mine (based on the results page)? I'm really confused how we started together and I finished first...but she won our group? Can anyone explain what happened?
