You do realize he's trying to qualify in the marathon, not the 5k, right? He's in the middle of his OT marathon training, and said earlier this week that he's not even close to being 5k sharp.

Ignorant comment. The first mile was slightly uphill and the last mile had two good hills on it, the second being 400m long into the finish which nullifies any kick. A track is what, perfectly flat with no asphalt divots?

Compared to normal races in Central Park it was "flatter," but the race was hardly flat.... Mary Wittenberg is a snake-oil saleswoman - at $50/entry she just wanted to get people through the door and a bit of false advertising goes a long way towards meeting her quota of max entrants.

If guys were running sub-14 in a meaningless race months away from peak shape I'd guess it's not too hard of a course.
