Hello...I am currently making a team website for my guys, and I have limited web space to work with. My question is: I know that there is a way in Adobe Photoshop to save images with less quality, so that they take up less web space - how do you do this???
Please let me know - they are GIFs if that helps
You can decrease the resolution to 96 bpi or less. Anything over that is pretty high and causes excess space to be used. What OS are you using?

Monitors can also only read as high as 72dpi. In photoshop you also can go to save as, select jpeg, then change the quality of the image by number 1-12.. Images in 7 still look ok, anything lower and you're pushing it.
save them as a tiff file. that should make them smaller, although I dont know if they will be web compatible then.
Reduce the resolution to 72 dpi. That is monitor resolution. The monitor can't display any higher resolution than 72 dpi, so if the image's resolution is higher than that you're just wasting space. Also, if your images are scanned or digital photos, they should be JPEGs, not GIFs.
When working in Photoshop it's smart to go with 72px or lower ("Image" then "Image size"). I'm not really sure what version of Photoshop you are using but on 6 and up I think there's an option when you go to save your pic ("File" then "Save as") you can choose an option called "Save for web" . Then you can either bring up two or 4 windows and fool around with size of you picture by decreasing the resolution and color and dithering. Once you have something you're happy with you just pick that window you're working in and click save. If you're using photo's or something with lots of colors it's best to use a jpg format. If you're using a cartoon or logo or something with flat color it's best to use a Bmp or Gif.

For single images in Photoshop 6, File, save for web, then adjust the image size to what you need (for viwing on screen probably no more than 1024X768)(adjusting the DPI is no use. Then use optimise to file size, with jpg compression to get the file size you want. (If the image looks over compressed try making it smaller and using lower compression)
In Photoshop CS it is the same I think.
when you go save as .jpg
put the quality to 60%
size need not be larger than 600" [pixels]

It'll take an entire folder, create thumbnails and save the photos for the web in default WEB resolution.
when you're in photoshop, make sure the resolution is 72, and that you are viewing it at 100% (that's the size that you'll see it on the web). go to file - save for web and click on the two up tab. you can compare the original and the web version you're saving. on the right choose jpg or gif (like they said before jpg for photos, gif for logos, simple designs, or simple text). for jpg you can usually go with quality of 40-60 and get by, gif you need to play with the ammount of colors (keep lowering it till you see the quality drop and use the lowest you can before that). you can see the file size in the bottom of the right window of how big it will be. don't save as a tiff (not made for the web and a much bigger file size).
