This is not as easy as some might think. I would guess that if one of the 2:03xx or 2:04xx guys ran a 2:10 one day, the next day they might be able to run 2:14 or so...
I bet they could, as long as they are capable of 2:03 on the day and on the same course that they do the first 2:10 at. 2:10 is about 20 seconds per mile slower than 2:03, which is a huge amount. The legs would be very beat up, but it should be do-able.
I say they could run 52.4 miles in 4:20.
A better question would be how many miles could they run 2:10 pace. I'm thinking at least 50K.
I would just like to see a 2:08-09 guy go through 50k to make that world record a reasonable record.
Drunk Engle says that the airplane "ran out of food". I doubt that. I can see them running out of water but even if that happened, his fiancee would have enough coke for all of them.
