Hi, I am a freshman in high school in the state of Florida (irrelevant). I was just wondering when and how I should go about tapering for the best possible peak at the regional and state meets. In my district I am ranked 6th and my senior running partner is ranked 3rd. Regardless, we (meaning coach him and I) have decided to train through districts. It being my freshman year I am only looking to put down the best possible time and the best possible place at these meets, and not going for the win and dying as I know it is a four year progression. This years progression has gone as follows: this is 5k and my kick is remarkable slow so if there are any exercises to help me out in that area I would greatly appreciate it.
17:53 road race (cool)
17:59 hilly XC (warm)
17:42 (hot)
17:21 (very nice weather)
17:49 (balls to the walls first two miles and died) practice meet)--district course
17:15 (prestate meet) warmish)--state course
17:02 (very cold) 44 degrees at race time--regional course
we have one more thursday meet and then district, regional, state. thank you for any input and any predictions for times. I have my email above that you can contact me for training and the interval sessions we have been doing and if I should tweak my training as the season wanes. My coach is open to training suggestions also.
