I went on a date last night with a girl who claims that she ran 21:56 for a full 3 miles when she was 8 years old for her black belt in karate.
I'm not going to tell you how I feel about this as I want you to stay objective.
Let me know how plausable you think this is for an 8 year old girl. Currently (at 24) she's 5'2 and 120lbs. She does not run anymore and has never been a 'runner'. No you're not getting pics with this thread.

I have a hard time with an 8 year old testing for a black belt in karate. My whole family is involved in martial arts and we are all black belts except my 7 year old. She has been training since the age of 3 and could feasibly be allowed to test for her black belt at 8 or 9 but I will not let her. Too many schools keep passing kids up through the ranks because mommy and daddy are footing the monthly bill and want the next belt color wrapped around jr's waist.
yeah, if you're younger than 14 with a black belt, its pretty much a joke.

I say short course. Or maybe she was really 13 at the time, and is just misremembering.
Technically, my 11 year old has a Jr. black belt. We will allow her to test for her adult first degree black belt when she is 13 or 14. I also feel strongly that these little black belts need to be required to spar on a regular basis and know how to give and receive kicks and punches. Just learning katas is not enough. Self defense, grappling, and sparring are all a part of it.
This thread isn't really about karate...I beleive that she actually received her black belt when she was 8 because my bestfriend was her instructor coincidentally.
I'm just asking a simple question, how many 'regular girls' can run three (3) miles at 7:19 pace without stopping at 8 years old? If you ask me, I'd be my life that it was short. I'd almost be willing to say she didn't run much more than 2 miles..
Odds are the course was short because to a Karate instructor, 2.5 and 3 are basically the same thing. However, it is possible. I work with a girl right now who is eight years old and runs 21:23 for 5k.
