I bet these scores probably can't compare to David Ramsey's, but I just wanted to see how I stacked up to other LetsRun readers

Hey all, i play 2player minesweeper on msn messenger against some running mates of mine. I have a 74-19 Win/Loss record, but here is the story
Last night, whilst playing i had the first turn and randomly picked 6mines in a row! Judging one of my friends math is correct we figured out that there was a 1/20872 chance of it happening!
256sq/51mines = 1/5chance of getting 1
5x5.1x5.2x5.3x5.4x5.5= 20872
is this correct probability?
beg - 8
int - 54
exp - 174
I may have a better score at work though, not sure.
My most impressive score is on Pinball though, I have yet to hear of someone that has a better score.
32,001,500 I scored over 18mil on ball one
You can call me the Admiral
3 secs??
Don't you kids have a spelling test to study for?

Somehow my high scores are erased everytime i close minesweeper, so i have to save the screenshots of my PRS.

The probability of that Event E would be:
P(E) = (51/256)*(50/255)*(49/254)*(48/253)*(47/252)*(46/251)
= 12966811200/26534361756670
~ 0.0004887
ie a 0.05% chance
This is assuming that the mines are randomly distributed. I'm not too into the programming of such games, but I'll assume that the position of all mines is not determined before you click a square. Just think (or if you like take a sample that is large enough to hold up to statistical tests ie 25 games) how many times do you hit a mine on your first click? Not 1/5 times that is for sure.
So if we assume that the 1st click will never yield a mine then the probability would be more like P(E)~0.0245 ie 2.5% chance. This sounds more likely, but it really depends on where you have clicked ie if you have chosen at random (not clicked a square next to a 1, where the probabilty of a mine is only 1/8). And it is very unlikely that there isn't some order in your picking (humans are not very good at picking random samples - just try typing random characters, it will most likely turn out that there is a bit of a pattern where one key will be from a certain side of the keyboard and the next key from the other side).
So, really I don't think we are in a position to pinpoint the probability of the event. The best way to pigure it out would be to take a sample probability (they are independent Bernoulli variables).
To save you the time I've taken a sample of 50 such six random clicks, where the randomness is induced by numbering each of the squares and using S-Plus (a statistical program) to sample from a uniform distribution X~U[0,256]
The results for Y=event that no mines are clicked in a sequence of six random clicks at the beginning of a game
sample mean(Y)= 0.28
sample variance(Y)=0.2057

Yeah, 1 seems impossible, but it's not. I just clicked the screen once, and the entire board immediately opened up only leaving the 10 bombs, which it automatically marked, thus winning the game in 1 second for me.. I was pumped
beg - 4
int - 34
exp - 130-140 (?) can't remember exactly
that 83 on expert is definitely the most impressive score on here. the 1 on beginner is cool, but 3 isn't surprising. i've gotten 4 probably ten times.
check this game out
Poisson Man, you kick @ss. You just blew my mind. If your running was on par with you mathematical abilities, you'd probably be a sub-4 minute miler. What is/was your major?
expert now 200. still can't study for my finals
I was happy about my 83; however, the "world record" is apparently 41 or so. It seems impossible, but I downloaded a movie of someone's game and saw how they did it. They don't click off the mines, but rather they learn how to distinguish where mines are based on the numbers they open up. Since clicking non-mine squares opens up gaps quickly, this is how it is done. Unfortunately, I learned to play the game the opposite way by marking off every single mine, so breaking an old habit will be tough.

On a touchpad too.
Oh yeah... forgot to add that i was at altitude.... Any tables on how the numbers convert with the altitude and touch pad??
Shit. I haven't played for years and tonight I got 5, 150, and a DNF. Can someone compute a 5K time from these results?
Anyone under 2 minutes for expert is either African, on EPO or both.
