Futsum, of course, it still in high school and doing well. Haile and Dunbar are at the top parts of their teams. Shields is behind a set of studs at Wisconsin. However, Futsum aside, the Final was remarkably senior-dominated
11, 14, 24, 25, 29, and 34 in addition to Futsum's 7th.

The list of FL entrants who have a major medal is even small indeed.
Yikes I don't recognize any but two or three of those names. Where were the Rosa twins or Lukas or that recent African high school star? Are there any studs this year besides the African kid (sorry I can't recall his name right now)?
Two of the regional champs(Matthews and Schwartz) haven't been heard from remotely. Also apparently Appel quit.
The times are slower than sh*t. It's no surprise not many of these guys are doing big things.
I would have to say that for now Dunbar has been the best to come out of that years run. Solomon is a close second.
3 Years Later, here's How they finished at the 2011 NCAA XC D1 Championship. 12 of 40 competed.

I wouldn't call them flops when they were not all that good to begin with.
This is why I find the criticism on another thread of a high school girl who is not running with her team and being trained by her father odd. Are there risks to that strategy? Sure. But the high school system, which all of the athletes excelled in, isn't exactly great at churning out runners who go on to successful collegiate or post-collegiate careers. 2008 was particularly poor but it isn't exactly atypical of the larger trend. I think it's even worse on the girls side-- the all-time list of girls Foot Locker/Kinney champions is pretty underwhelming.
Some info on a few Cali guys; Heard Schwartz bounced out of Cal Poly and joined the Military and Landrum was 3rd in the Cali JC State meet this yr.

Interesting how close most of these guys were to each other. Some, like Haile, would have finished in this range also if their team had qualified (Arkansas missed for the second time in 40 years).
Also note that Futsum was only (9) for the race and is no slouch now, with good final race showings.

Rosas were at NXN that year.
Don't know were Lukas was.
The African kid (I assume that you mean Edward Cheserek) was in Africa.

There are development issues with girls that may impact their running development that have nothing to do with who coaches them.
Your argument of parents coaching their kids is total crap, see Carrie Garritson, along with the girl from Texas (who is so out of it I can no longer remember her name), but she is at Stanford, and the 8th grade phenom coached by Dad who set the National indoor 5k record and then was a non factor at Harvard, she was from New Jersey. Didn't work out any better for them.
Was this a a rainy year or something? the times seem really slow to me

Who was in this class who didn't race FL? As far I can tell Mo Ahmed is by far the best product from this grad year.
NXN was way better that year...
(36) 1. Reed Connor
(138) 2. Jakub Zivec

Didn't Soloman Haile do pretty well at NCAA XC last year? Hasn't he also run 28:40 at Arkansas?
What causes you to say NXN looks better.
The median NCAA finish from your provided NXN iist is 129th place, and the Footlocker median was 118th. Looks like a bunch of overlap with the field of guys too.
So the class of 2009 (2008 footlocker) are now juniors in college with most of them having sophomore eligibility. Why don't we wait another year or two to determine if the class as a whole is a flop.
I think people were spoiled with the previous year's class that had the up front top runners, and then an insane amount of depth! It's hard to compete against a class with Derrick, Fernandez, Puskedra, Estrada, Hill, Cabral, Fout, Darling, Lowe, and many others from 2007 footlocker.
