Quote from article:
"Carlos is less patient with the state of track and field and its assorted drug scandals. “How can you live with yourself and call yourself a champion, when you repeatedly have lied to yourself and lied to society?” he asked. “It’s gotten so bad that it’s actually destroying the sport and eating out the root of the sport from the bottom, and the bottom is about to fall out.”
Carlos was also dismissive of sprinting’s current sensation, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, saying, “I don’t look at him.”"

Good to know...and the proof?

"Anybody who ran faster than me is dirty" syndrome.
-
Or is it "someone who ran faster than everyone who ever cheated syndrome"?

Maybe the whole thing betrays the actual lack of value of steroids in sprinting. These are runners not bodybuilders. -
Carlos has always been dismissive of everyone except himself--he's always been a relentless self-promoter. This is the second time he has writen his life story (I do not think anyone bought the first book). Carlos has long claims that he "let Tommie Smith win" the gold in 68 (yeah, right), and that it was his idea (not Smith's) to do the black-gloved protest, which Smith (and most people who knew them at the time) adamently denies. Smith is much more believable, as he has had a long history of political activism. Carlos is a joke.

Carlos was the Bronze medalisr so he was "letting" more than one guy beat him.

Nowhere In the article does Carlos say that he believes Bolt is using drugs. The OP has a misleadiing title and should change it.
The NYT writer ia also at fault for placing Carlos' quote about drugs next to Carlos' quote about Bolt. But that does not excuse the OP's sloppiness.
Peace -
1.) For multiple reasons, Carlos is a fool
2.) having crushed times that convicted drug users have run, I'd tend to lean toward Bolt being ped powered -
He never says that Bolt is on drugs.
A good friend of mine ran with Carlos and knows him well. I was privileged to have met Carlos a few years back.
He is no one's fool.
If you weren't a black man in the 1960's you wouldn't have understood what drove that guy. -
You'd have to be an idiot or painfully naive to believe that Bolt's times aren't drug aided. Dirtiest runner I've ever seen, after Paula Radcliffe.
-
Actually, Nate Jenkins is the dirtiest runner ever. Sometimes weeks without a bath.

This should be the quote of the day:
“How can you live with yourself and call yourself a champion, when you repeatedly have lied to yourself and lied to society?” he asked. “It’s gotten so bad that it’s actually destroying the sport and eating out the root of the sport from the bottom, and the bottom is about to fall out.” -
I thought it was pretty clear Carlos' stance is that Bolt is obviously doping.
Maybe Carlos isnt super credible, or maybe he is - but I can see why someone from his era would doubt some of the performances of today, and for damn good reason IMO. -

How many non-african cheaters has Galen rupp ran faster than. -
The guys up in Portland tell me it costs $125,000 per year for the resources to beat USADA and WADA and that there are plenty of people willing to pay.

Still can't get over that salute, hey

So that means that plenty of people in the sport are making a lot more than $125,000? There's always talk here about how hard it is to make a living in track. Why would someone pay that much to come out in the hole? -
Carlos, in New York to promote the autobiography,
"I am here for you," Carlos said.
Hmmmm. Interesting timing.
