Saw this on the front page of ESPN--not sure whether to be more impressed with the fact that she finished or disappointed that she even considered doing it. Amazing story regardless.

I wonder how many hours she was in labor. That would be a pretty epic double.
-
She run in 6 h 25 min ... Not very impressive ...
-
Does the baby get a finishers medal too?
-
Most women see pregnancy as an excuse to gain as much weight as they want and become lazy. Historically, doctors have also advised not to perform any sports. That has changed it bit.
However, run/walking a Marathon a day before giving birth sounds a bit extreme and unnecessary to me. Looking at the time, over 6 hours, you can walk, therefore it probably is ok.
Still I have to ask: why? -

That was my immediate reaction.

Because it wasn't the day before the due date - the baby came quite early. -
3rd running-related story to make the front page of ESPN in the last week....that's impressive on its own.

Her PR is 3:25. -
...Her slow time had something to with the human clinging to her abdomen. Let's give you a 20 pound bag of flour, strap it to you, and see how fast you run.

The article said she ran the first half and walked the second. She probably started walking because the running induced labor.

I'll start by saying I know next to little about pregnancy. While I'm all for people remaining active during pregnancy, does anyone else think this is just a crazy story?
The ESPN article quotes her as saying she is "crazy" about running. I'd just say crazy.
She was 39 weeks pregnant. My god that's almost 10 months. I had no idea pregnancy's actually last normally last 40 weeks.

A different article on her here:

Here are some other articles on it. I feel better that she had permission from her doc to do half:

I'm also glad to report that no one yelled at her.

she probably signed up for the marathon, found out she was pregnant later on, decided to run/walk it because she was already invested in it. kind of awesome really. extreme, but awesome.
-
Not awesome at all. Irresponsible. She put the baby's health/life at risk. Whether she was walking or running, body temp was high for an extended period of time, and most likely due to her physical exertion during the event, the baby was delivered early under high risk conditions because of Mom's actions.
I'm a female, a runner, and a woman who ran some during pregnancy. What this lady did was stupid. Hopefully the infant doesn't experience any longterm effects.
No way the cost of a marathon registration fee is worth putting your kid at risk like that so late in a pregnancy. Truly appalling. -
one article said her doctor told her to maintain a talking conversation pace. The more i think about that - how bad could that be?

Well, the baby clearly wanted to get the hell out of there! -
disgusting. i saw a pregant lady waddling to the finish line at a mud run a few weeks back as well. it was well over 100 degrees, and there were plenty of hazards that could have been deadly to the baby had she tripped.
this "my body my choice" generation is the biggest group of selfish b*****s.
