Janet Cherobon-Bawcom is a beast. Has she lost a race at all since gaining citizenship?
who is chelangas coach?
Schumaker (sp?)
I do not think so. She has trained fairly well for many years and won a lot of races. Most of her recent success is due to being coached by Jack Daniels and making the jump from the easy money races to the more competitive races. Obviously it is working for her. She might surprise some people in the marathon trials especially if the pace is slower.
Jenkins? Needs a sub 105 to get into the big dance, was targeting his one.

No he wasn't there.
Janet can't run the trials. She's a citizen, but not eligible to compete for the US for another couple of years. She's running NY, I believe.
I noticed she's also entered in the tufts 10k tomorrow. Is she really going to double back?
So and so told me that she is now eligible to compete in the trials and has already pulled out of New York to specifically prepare for the trials. It would not surprise me to see her in the 10k tomorrow.
Actually, Janet can run the trials after the IAAF granted her appeal in August - that's why she's also eligible to run the US Championship races now.
She has lost quite a few times since getting her citizenship - 2nd at Cooper River, 6th at Bloomsday, 2nd at the Indy Mini, 4th at Falmouth.
We moved to Flagstaff in May for me to go to school, and that's when she started working with Jack Daniels as well. She was planning to run the NYC marathon, but when she was cleared to run the trials she decided to scratch from NY since they're a little too close. She had been doing some good marathon training, and once she decided not to do NY, she threw in a little speed work, and the results have been pretty good. We knew that she responds well to altitude, but the results have been better than expected so far.
As for Tufts, I think she'll have to see how she feels in the morning. I think the noon start time for Tufts makes it a little more doable, but she ran pretty hard today, so who knows.
I am a guy and have raced against Janet many times. She usually beats me and it helps my ego to know that I was losing to a future national champion! I think the last time we raced, she was running with a post collegiate program in Georgia. I thought the college coach was doing a great job but I guess Jack Daniels is really helping her out. Tell her congrats on her recent results and I can't wait to watch her in the marathon trials!
In Georgia Janet was doing a good deal of her training with the post-collegiate group there in Rome, but she and I were still handling the coaching side of things. She would tell me what sort of quality sessions she wanted to do, and then I would go to the calendar to see where things might fit. She really benefitted from having a few guys she could train with regularly - particularly for her quality sessions.
When I decided to go back to school we figured that it might be a good opportunity for her to explore the possibility of working a "real" coach. I got into programs at NAU and Oklahoma, and we decided to give Flagstaff a try. She'd always run well after visiting altitude in Kenya, and this would be a chance for an extended time up high while also letting me get my schooling done. After talking with Jack Daniels, she felt like he would be the guy who could help her transition to real marathon tranining, and so far it looks like it's working pretty well for her. She'll take a break after this weekend and then get on the horse to get ready for Houston.
A lot of people have asked about how she trains - and what she's done to improve. When I have a few spare minutes I'll come back on here and give the basic rundown.
Hoping you'll have a few spare minutes...
