Yeah, its not like she made finals at the US championships or anything. Finalists really have no hope of placing in the top three. This is sarcasm. Of course she isn't a favorite, but she obviously has a shot. She placed ninth. Yes, she was a ways off, but still. She made the finals and placed ninth. With a smarter race (she went out extremely hard, near the front and faded), she could have easily been 6th.

Ummm how about you still listen. This is referring to last year. You are saying that someone who placed 9th, and could have easily been 6th, should not train with the goal of moving to third in mind? You really do bring stupidity to a new level on this forum. Congratulations.

Look at how many presidential candidates who have zero change to get the nomination continue to collect money and run a campaign. They do it to increase their public exposure and get experience. It is not always about winning or even making the team.

I agree she's a long shot, but what about 2016? Why not get the experience by gearing up for 2012 like it's the real deal? I give Vin credit for thinking beyond his own season.

Isn't her PB around 4:11-14?

If it were easy for her to accomplish that task, as you suggest, then why didn't she? Most people, especially successful and disciplined distance runners, find that doing things that are easy for them to do,.. well.. easy.

Again, watch the race, you'll understand. Just because something didn't happen, does not mean it wasn't in the realm of possibility. Learn some basic logic before you post.

To try is more reasonable than not to try, if one wants to be on the Olympic team.

Even without Hasay Oregon women will run away with the indoors and outdoors NCAA's this year. Thiesen,Purvis and Kolinski are all back and not injured even without those 3 Oregon dominated the indoors and lost the outdoors by 4 points minus those 3 and and least 20 points from them. The Oregon 4 by 1 and 4 by 4 might set NCAA records for the relays this coming year :)

i'm not a hater in the slightest. huge fan of hasay and the ducks. but for vin to be saying they're going to do whatever it takes to get jordan on the olympic team seems to just be setting her up for disappointment and unnecessarily hurting the title chances of what will be an excellent team

Is it realistic for her to try? Of course it is. She made the finals last year and is a young adult with big chances of improvement.

Is it realistic to say she will finish top three? Probably not> But a champion will try while a loser will not.

Nothing wrong with Hasay running in the Olympic Trials for experience--but if she's just doing it for experience rather than to actually make the team, there would be no need to not compete in NCAAs (see Jock).Hasay is actually ON the Oregon 2012 team roster, and this may be the reason why:

She ran 4:14.5 out of high school before she got to Oregon. She would need to improve more this season than in the prior years at Oregon. Beating out one of: the defending #1 in the world, the defending world champion, or the defending Olympic bronze medalist is a pretty tall order.

I expect Charles Jock to make the team, but not Hasay.
