Best lifts:
cleans
lunges
stepups
d.b. bench press
pullups
Thank you sir. Any thoughts on squats or deadlift? I'm assuming they were left out because of the stress on the knees (squats) and stress on the back (deadlift).
Try the stiff legged deadlift. The whole point of lifting is to induce stress, so as long as your form is clean then it's OK.
Good stuff. It looks like I'll shell out a few bucks at the local gold's so they can teach me good technique on the more complicated lifts. I checked out the "super-thread" at the top and got some good stuff there also. Thanks jmw
Golds might even have a glute-ham machine. Specifically ask about that one, it'll help out a good bit with your top speed capabilities.
Will do.
Squats and deadlifts are excellent. Learn the techniques properly, though. The reason I like step-ups and lunges is because you can isolate each leg. However, I am a big fan of squats and deadlifts.
can you describe a glute-ham machine?...sounds like fun
link for a glute-ham pic.
I watched a 155lb guy bench press 390lb! for a new personal best 2 days ago. No lie.

Find that guy and tell him to get serious about competing on the national and world stage. At last years USA Powerlifting Bench Press Nationals, he'd have placed third in the 165 lb. (= 75 Kg.) division. Surely could've lifted even more if he wasn't giving up 10 lbs of bodyweight to the competition.
http://www.usapowerlifting.com/newsletter/15/results/benchnat.htmlThings get tougher at the world level - would have only placed eleventh at last years IPF Open World Championship Bench Press:
http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/worlds/worbench2003.htmYou witnessed the bench pressing equivalent of some random guy ripping off around a 3:52 mile - not too shabby!
