Just one example:
- They studied the Biaka Pygmies, the San bushmen, and the Mandenka.
Very few African Americans are descended from these groups - let alone all of them (less than 25%).
Mandenka - 19.2% of AA
Yoruba- 63.7%
Bantu- 13.8%
Biaka - 1%
Mbuti - 0.1%
San - 2%
I work in the genetics dept at my uni.
This story last week created a mini uproar.
The Mandenka and Biaka had the highest rate of mixture, the San the lowest according to 2 grad students I talked with and a professor.
The Yoruba probably are similar to the Mandenka and Biaka but have yet to be tested although there are studies ongoing.
Another problem is the base use of African DNA to test White/Asian DNA against in the study last year that indicated Neanderthal mixture in Whites/Asians. If the African DNA is admixed, then the Neanderthal admixture in White/Asian populations could be even higher.
Still its impossible to determine because there is no base human DNA sequence unless we use fossil DNA.
Thats why this case is so interesting. Blacks of West African descent were the only ones with this admixture, and also interestingly blacks of West African descent dominate the sprints. The causation is very clear, and its something I would like to study.

How does this theory or fact, if accurate, explain anything? You are still left with the question why these groups were faster than any other humans at that time

Sprints (100-400): 3
Hurdles 3 caucasian plus 1 Chinese
Middle Distance (800-1500) 5
Long Distance 1 (a Russian female steepler)
Over the last 20 years in the USA, white sprinters (just Wariner and Andrew Rock have TEN Oly/WC golds) make all distance runners not named Lagat combined look like a joke.
Quite frankly, with the exception of Nike buying them off, I do not see why USATF even bothers with events longer than 1500.
Because they sell a hell of a lot more distance shoes than they do sprinters spikes, billions to thousands worth. (And I am no fan of Nike.)

USATF's reason to exist under the Amateur Sports Act is to provide USA teams for the Olympic Games and Paralympics. That's it.

I have no real knowledge of genetics and breeding, but it seems common sense that slavery would have to have some effect on African Americans physique. As I understand history, the west africans were chosen because they were physically suited for physical labor in the first place. Slavery lasted over a century. I think it is reasonable to assume that during that time, slaves were either intentionally for the work or as a result of the work, "bred" into what we now see today as top notch athletes.---if any race were to go through a similar period of slavery, they would also see the same breeding effects.

Doubtful. There was breeding. Actually Chris Rock had a funny skit about slave breeding and affirmative action. But I don't think slave owners had any interest in wanting to see blacks run faster.

you could concentrate certain genetics from any large gene pool in the world and come up with a group similar to the concentration seen in Jamaica. china, europe, no matter.
japan for example is a better sprinting country than most and is ahead of just about every african country.check out how japans 4x100 national team fared over the last 50 years.
look the all time lists, and be sure to take out banned PED athletes.
you would have many warriners, lematres, borzovs, lius simply by concentrating the required traits through selective breeding.
