i just did 5 x 1000m in 3:30 with 2 mins rest. my rhr is 40 and my max is maybe 185 or 190. my hr would hit 150 on the intervals and drop back to 80 after the 2 mins.
extra info - i'm 35 and i'm doing 40-50 miles/week in 5 sessions (one long, one track wo, one tempo, the rest easy 7.30 pace). i've run for a few years but only recently started taking it seriously. before that i was an occasional "jogger".
some questions (b/c i'm inexperienced and want some direction in my training):
how should i be doing this workout? in particular - what rest? is 2 mins too much?
i feel like 150 is maybe not a terribly high hr - is it? does this mean i wasn't working hard enough? i wouldn't call the workout easy by a long shot, but i could have maybe done 1 or 2 more. i honestly think it would have been a stretch to run any faster without really racing it. is it maybe that i'm simply not in good enough aerobic shape?
due to commitments i have on weekends, i rarely race. what kind of shape would this workout indicate?
