Jenny Simpson 4:06.13 in Rieti Today

Yikes - how did the race go down? 10th place seems much worse than the 4:06.13 time.

4:06 is not a very good time in Europe.

Were all the people in front of her at WC's? You have a long plane flight plus all the hype and excitement over her win.

Rodriguez(broneze medallist), Makestad and Belete were all in the final in Daegu. Interestingly, Hellen Obiri who fell along with Uceny in the final won the 'B' race very convincingly in 4:04:10

I don't care if she ran 5:06 and finished 110th, she is still GOLDEN and no one can ever take that away from her!

You're only ever as good as your last race! Hopefully her next race will be better and this race shows that she needs to gain more experience at this level to become consistently good.

In a certain way, winning at Daegu was one of the worst things that could have happened to her, because now her coach is vindicated, but JBS is nowhere near as good as she was as a senior with Wetmore at CU. I'd actually be very surprised if she makes the Olympic team at 1500.

I agree with what you are saying. Until she won, I thought she was running the wrong event at Worlds.

However, she is the World F****** Champion. If her career ended she'll always be referred to as World Champion.

But even worse was Anna Pearce's time 4:16. What's up with that?

Yeah, Montesquieu, I knew Montesquieu and you are no Montesquieu. Ask New Balance if winning the WC was one of the worst things that could happen to her.

My case is that for Simpson, Rieti is kind of an anticlimax.

Oh she will make the U.S. team no doubt because there isn't anyone with more talent and consistency. I mean really, Anna Pearce running 4:16? And she is suppose to be a 1500 runner? Jordan could beat her.

Making the national team is a dream for most. Winning a World or Oly championship is a once in a lifetime thing that billions of people will never accomplish. If she does nothing else ever, her running career is greater than just about almost everyone on the planet except for a select few. Ease back on the crack.

Hope, didn't forget Morgan Uceny. Jenny B.S. has still proven she is more consistant than anyone, including Morgan. Morgan has had a great year but let's wait and see if she can continue this. Or, in the same way Pearce, Rowbury et all have had one decent year. . .

Although Jenny's grandiose pronouncements and self-imortance can be a real turn off too many she is still one of the best female track and field athletes we have seen in the last 10 years.

Correction. Pierce and Rowbury were both outstanding collegiate athletes and they have both been ranked among the top US and world runners in their events since they became pros. They have had one SUBPAR year this year and that is due to injuries. It is a bit naive for you to claim that these two women have had only one decent year.

Uceny just started racing at the world class level last year where she ran very well. This year she has been winning major world class competitions. She got tripped in Daegu so there is unfortunately no way for any of us to ever know if she would have won the gold medal in Daegu. Frankly, I think her chances of winning had she not fallen were very high.
