i see sub 14:40 perhaps even 14:35!
Depends on how the pacemaking goes. VC is capable of running much faster and could just leave her behind. Shalane's best bet is for VC to plan on speeding up significantly as the race goes on. This way, Shalane can fade from the pack and hopefully still do all right. If VC breaks 14:20, Shalane is going to have her work cut out for her keeping up.
I don't think it's a slam dunk. She's already tried for it twice this year, and hasn't gotten it back. She's been running well, but I don't see any evidence that she's in PR shape. If she is, it's probably by a small margin- I don't think sub-14:40 is going to happen.
Shalane runs 14:43 but Huddle sneaks by her the last 150 meters, even though she has been injured.
In other news, VC runs a world record 14:09 despite having just doubled in Daegu.
My question: Are you sure, sir?
Hate to say it, because I'm a fan of her, but Daegu wasn't too promising.
I agree with you. The question at the end of a long season is, Was Daegu a fluke or is she tired?
Shalane has run some great races and surely has the potential to run 14:40 or better, but I'd have to agree with the previous posts. Her Daegu performance does not indicate a new record is likely this time.
Wow, she couldn't even hang with 71 second laps. Something definitely seems to be up, whether it's physical or mental.
Not her day
Was it a fast pace from the start she tried to go with or was it slow and she just didn't ever have it?
15 FLANAGAN Shalane USA 15:32.31

She definitely seems to be struggling, but all of Jerry's group has had a rough year for the most part. Hopefully they can bounce back, regroup, and have a strong next year.
14 were together early on and Shalane was on the back. She got dropped by roughly halfway.
Wow, tough race for Shalane. Injured or burned out? Maybe she needs to take a few weeks off and start back gradually before the marathon trials.
she had to go off the drugs for world's. she is the american gabriela szabo
Given the 3K and 10K American records isn't the 5K American kind of soft? What say you, Letsrun?
Dead last.
i never liked flanagan
obviously there was something wrong with SF today. I give her a lot of credit for finishing. I say go home and rest and then get ready for marathon debut.

You realize that she ran NY last year?
