Where to run in Prague, Czech Republic?

Was there the summer of '09 for a few days. I ran every morning along the river. The St. Charles bridge should be done with renovations and there is plenty of room on the sidewalks/along the river front. There are a few parks as well worth checking out. Some are very hilly if you need a tougher effort or stay flat on the river.

Petrin Hill has some really nice paths and trails, and a lot of running clubs go there. Vysehrad is also nice, although not quite as many trails there. Both are pretty close to the Vltava so you can run along the river to get there.

If you want to do sightseeing, try running in Stare Mesto and Mala Strana really early in the morning before the hordes of tourists are out.

Run with friends. Prague is inhabitaed by very poor people stuck in rotten liitle cubby hole apartments. Single men venture out for economic crimes. The place sucks.

Not my experience, but I'll admit I wasn't alone in Prague often. Still, I've traveled around Central and Eastern Europe by myself quite a bit and I think the risk tends to be exaggerated.

keep track of where you're going, i got lost and wandered around for 2+ hours on what was supposed to be a 1 hour run.

i ran along the river bordering old-town prague, but there are some sketchy parts. the park where the metronome is nice, but relatively small for a run.

Thanks for all the options. Looks like there are some good sized parks near the center of Prague, so might have to see if I can run there from where we're staying (Pension Braha?).

If anyone's in the 10k Saturday, look for a guy in a Red Lizard (Portland, OR.) singlet, probably running between 38:00-38:30.

Glad to find this (old) thread. I'll be in Prague for a convention for nearly two weeks late June/early July.

The conference will be at the Prague Congress Centre:

Would like to run ~8 mi pre-breakfast most mornings.

Does this seem reasonable? Or will I hate life trying to run from this location and should consider something different?

Good location. Head over to the danube river then run south on the bikepath. Stay on the east side of the river, the side your hotel is on. If you go far enough and get out of the city proper it runs through parks and even has a dirt shoulder. Nothing sketchy encountered. I stopped there last july while cycling budapest to berlin.

Yeah, you've got a good spot. Your hotel is on the top of a hill, so you'll be finishing running up stairs or hills.

If you're running in the morning, avoid the parks closer to downtown and train station. They're compared to Sherwood forest; lots of bums make it their bed overnight. Farther north east is a more sketchy, Gypsy area.

River trail is easy and flat. Weaving through the neighborhoods to the south and east of your hotel will be hillier.

Since your hotel is basically few steps from the subway station you can take subway to the Roztyly station. It's just 5 stations away which would be like 8 minute ride and there you have a real forest with dirt trails just next to the exit of the subway station. It won't take you more than 12 minutes in total from your hotel to get there to that forest.
