I've not heard of this Lametre person - who is he and why does he get any responses at all?

You must have missed the 30 different threads about Centro that have been started in the past 18 hours.

Centro is the man, but Olympic medal trumps Worlds medal everyday.

And the WC garner less attention by the entire world than the Olympics do.

The kid knows how to run a competitive race, not just a fast time. He will improve no doubt.

I would say he has gotten quite a bit of attention considering he is not even the fastest runner in America in his event. If you don't think he's gotten enough attention check back in two years and he will probably have as many threads as alan webb all bashing him for not setting the world record or winning the olympics etc. As far as Lametre he ran an amazing time, only one other white guy in history has run faster and he did it at altitude. Centro sat and kicked in a tactical final. Centro's PR is 1590 on the all time performance list Lametre's time was 43 and the two people who beat him were numbers 4 and 19 respectively. Not saying centros accomplishment wasn't great but we all know that much of it had to do with luck and circumstances. No one is going to start nominating centro as one of the all time greats of the 1500m at least not yet.

doodoo. he doen't have to be one of the all-time greats - he just did something no American born distance athlete has done in many years. he medaled in a distance race in a major champs. doesn't seem to be getting as much love as a foreigner, lemaitre, for whatever reason.
