This is isn't going to be a popular opinion but I'm truly gutted that Jenny B is getting a medal and Morgan Uceny is not.
For me a world medal has to be EARNED and JB has done nothing this year to suggest she is worthy of it. Kudos for being able to capitalise on the mistakes of others but in all honesty she got lucky.
Feel free to rip me to pieces here but really I think Morgan Uceny is far more deserving of medal

I wouldn't say that Simpson is undeserving. She ran a smart race, put herself in the right place and right time and executed beautifully.
But I am also gutted for Uceny. I have little doubt she would have won off that pace.
It is really simple: she showed up, she won. She didn't win at anyone's expense. Get over it.

In seriousness, in what way does to OP expect somebody to 'earn' the gold medal if not by winning the race? The race is not always to the swift...
It's track and field, it's not a meritocracy.
Yeah, that's the first and last time a favorite has gone down in a final.
Simpson is one of the most hard working, intense, focused, and passionate athletes in the U.S. NO ONE deserves it more!

Last time I checked, a world medal was EARNED by winning a championship race, but thanks for sharing your dumb opinion.

Exactly. Too funny. There is no other way to "earn" a gold medal than to win the race. Nuff said!
It's a race, not a time trial. Races play out in many different ways. If JB had gotten pipped at the end by Rodriguez or some non-US runner you would have likely said the winner did not deserve it.
Favorites and performance list leaders don't always win. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Her preparation got her in the finals and opportunity got her the gold. End of story.
You have WC Gold confused with year-end rankings. Uceny will probably be ranked #1 in the world at the end of the season because she DESERVES it and Jenny will be the World Champion because she DESERVES it. Uceny DOES NOT DESERVE to be World Champion. She desverves to be the World Ranked #1 for having the best overall season. Don't get the 2 confused. There's only 1 winner of a race, and the winner isn't always the one with the best season.
Funny, but I thought Jennifer BS spent this season working her way back from an injury. Does that not count as "earning" it?
I bet that there are some JBS fans out there who think just like you. Every time they read about Morgan Uceny this summer, they thought: "It's not fair!!! She's only winning because my girl is injured. Just wait until JBS is back in shape. She'll show her."
Me? I feel bad for Ms. Uceny, but really, I can't wait for Brussels. That should be a good race.
Hey I've been grinding out the miles all summer while sick and banged up, what do I deserve? I feel bad for morgan but #1 rank or not that only gets you to the starting line.
This is Jenny's day! Too bad for Morgan as it is not her day.
If Morgan continues to persevere she too will live to run another great race. Just like Jenny did. Jenny has had many setbacks and injuries (losing her shoe at NCAA's in steeple, stress reaction, and NCAA cross debacle).
But today it was all Jenny. She deserves it. And why can't all the jealous haters just disapper for one day?

I would go as far to say that she didn't deserve to be tripped up by Obiri, anymore than Liu deserved to get impeded by Robles. But that doesn't enter into the discussion on Jenny Simpson being a deserving champion.
The OP's premise is ridiculous. Simpson had some earlier problems to overcome but there was ample evidence that she coming around at just the right time, and has the finishing speed to be world class. She's an extremely deserving gold medalist and it's asinine to say otherwise.
Jenny has done this kick at the end and win many times as a frosh in NCAA Steeple, Prefontaine, and now here in the WC.
We haven't seen her kick successfully for awhile, but this to me wasn't too surprising.
