probably the heat and jet lag. Rupp trains in an environment that is more similar to London than Daegu.
Tadese's time of 27:22 stands out as slow too for what he is capable of. Even when pushing the pace. As I said, it wasn't just Rupp.

I was also wondering why so many people were falling off. It didn't seem like there were any big surges that were around 60 that might have worn some people out. I was amazed to see Rupp falling off when they seemed to be consistently dropping 65s and 66s during the last 2k.
I often wonder the same thing. Look at the 83 Worlds 10,000. Right around 28:00 when the fastest were mid 27's. Practically the whole field finished together. I can't find a video of that race anywhere. But you would expect to see more people in it with a lap to go at that pace.
Then, fine, most cannot close in 53.

C'mon people. I get it that no world records are ever going to be touched in a world championship in this era without pace setters. But Tadese, who Ritz said was in another league in 2009, finished with the exact same time Ritz had in 2009. Sihine and Tanui are sub 27 runners this year and finished well behind.
Obviously at least a few runners didn't care about the slow pace because they trusted in their finishing kick. But it seems a broad base or runners ran slower than what they have proven they are capable of, pace setters or not.

It was warmer and more humid than ideal. I wonder sometimes if you some of the posters on this board have actually ever run outside.

Warmish weather, uneven pace (13:58/13:15), close in 1:53/52. Seems pretty solid to me. I don't think that Farah was 30 seconds slower in absolut3 terms than earlier in th eseason, he actually seemed fairly sharp. So 26:4x effort for Jeilan, which is in line with 27:2 at "17".

I think weather was definitely a factor. Hot and humid. Dew point in my city was 68 last night but Daegu is usually hotter and more humid than that.
Didn't feel that bad sitting down in the stadium and there was even a bit of a breeze but all the athletes looked like they were soaked after just a few minutes of activity.
