Sorry the other thread reminded me of this. I'm English by the way.

Ive often wondered that myself, and I'm American.

I am glad we share similar thoughts, despite me still being English.
Because they don't excel at 800. So, a 800 runner-typo like Wariner, run 400.
It sucks to say, but probably because of slave breeding.
American football.
Many of the kids that play football also sprint--pretty much required for most of the skilled positions. But only the very best athletes are fast enough to stay in the 100. The rest don't want to admit to themselves that they are not an athlete (read: distance runner) so they end up in the 400 and stay there.
We do have a few people that have crossed to the 800. KD was a football player who had injury problems. Krummenacker and Charles Jock started as BB players.

Go run your kkk workout, you slow ass white boy. They train hard and you train like a slow ass kkk/fag.

Who do you suppose bred Jeremy Wariner's ancestors?

+1
Same as the rest of the sprints
Propencity to dope
I would like to see certain college football players take a shot at training for the 800M if they find they don't have a future in the NFL. A guy like Jeff Maehl, a WR for Oregon who graduated last year, comes to mind. Probably won't make it in the NFL. Just not explosive enough. But he has a great running stride. Already has great speed for 800M runner. And he has established good speed endurance.
With a year or two of training to build up more endurance, and shed the needless muscle weight for football, who knows?
Moreoever, what does anyone have to lose? Maehl has another 50 years of his life to sit in an office and sell insurance or whatnot. Before he does that, Nike could give up a little $15,000 stipend so he can focus on training and see what happens.
...'cause that's about how far you have to go to out run the cops? .... :>)
Maybe because Clyde Hart lives here.
West African heritage in US. West Africans have won almost all 400s in the Olympics for past 30 years.
We don't win distance races because the slaves were brought to America from the west coast of Africa, not the East Coast.
I've often thought that the proliferation of American high school dual meets, with their meet-ending 4x400m relay, has something to do with it. A lot of "possibles" run in those, and talents who otherwise might stay in the 100/200 end up getting spotted as "belonging" in the 400.
I know that Lee Evan (1968 OG 400 champ) and others have talked about the "selective breeding" aspect of the American slavery era, but I'm not sure I buy it. After all, the slaves were those who couldn't outrun their captors (who were mostly other black Africans).

Not fast enough to sprint with the jamaicans and not enough endurance to run with the africans.. simple

It's the West African speed diluted with Euro-American plantation owner's relative endurance.
