I knew that I was ahead of the times with my two-Mountain-Dews-a-day rule. Now I just need to add meals with up to three meat entrees and I'm set.

He can drink soda. He's a sprinter.

nutrition didn't make anthony Famiglietti a world class runner, why would a soda make Rudisha any less than a world record holder.

Frank Shorter drank Coca Cola in his heyday. I didn't have much of a heyday, but I used it pre-race in the same way that others use coffee. It was not a problem.

same reason kim smith drinks coffee. caffeine enhances performance. WADA has chosen arbitrary thresholds that have no significance whatsoever.

He "carbo-loaded" on fries, gummi bears, white bread with Nutella and washed it all down with Coca-Cola. Had to be Coca-cola, not Pepsi.

When he ran 2:13 at Amsterdam in 2003, his dinner the night before the race was a McDonalds BigMac, Large Fries, a pile of Haribo gummi worms and 2 liters of Coca-cola. I am not making this up. He had to eat coca-cola and junk food in order to run fast.

He always said "I don't drink water because fish pee in it!"

Also he never ate any vegetables or anything green, except for green gummi candy.

In April 2007, I was in Belgium the weekend after I ran the Paris marathon, and he was getting ready for the Antwerp marathon. The night before the race, I took him to a pasta place, thinking that some "healthy" food would help him. He ate a plate of spaghetti with meat sauce, but his body rejected it, and he ended up pulling a "Radcliffe," and crapping on the road about 12km into the marathon, live on Belgian national TV.

anyone who honestly thinks that drinking soda on occasion affects your running is obviously looking way too much into everything and is a fcking loser who will never reach their best because they are too worried about arbitrary details. aka they are fcuking losers in the first place who don't have many friends and therefore suck at life. no matter what ther times, they still suck at life because they do not bother to achieve some sort of personality outside of athletics

I sort of have to agree with commonsense09, though I'd be more mildmannered about it. Considering what busy runners burn off, I can't see how the consumption or one or two sodas a day is even an issue worthy of discussion. The attention paid to the minutia of diet by runners nowadays is just silly, honestly.
