I am a 47 yr old guy looking to run under 3 hours for a marathon.
Ran college track - 1:52 800m; 3:52 1500m - some x-country high 25 min at Van Cortland.
Kept in shape until age 35 - then kids and a start up were my excuses for the pounds that pile up. Weight increased from 170 lb to 220lb by 2009. In 2009 decided to lose some weight - joined the local running store marathon group - hit the wall every Saturday AM for 4 months but dropped down to 190 lb. Finished a marathon in Oct 2009 but hit the wall bad - finishing in 3:41. Since then have stayed in about the same shape; took care of some problems (varicose vein surgery). Have been running 40 -50 miles/week for the past 2-3 months and am starting to build up my mileage.
I do not think the marathon is really my thing but I do want to break 3 hours.
So...what's your advice
How much mileage?
What should my weeks look like?
How long to reach my goal?
