KINGSTON - Information reaching Trackalerts.com, is that a member of USA's team to this month's IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, has tested positive for a stimulant.
According to Trackalerts' source, the athlete in question tested positive for a substance he consumed in an energy drink.
While the athlete could just receive a public warning, there will be no time for a hearing before Daegu, thus he/she is expected to be dropped from USA's 2011 World Championships team.

The IAAF should take the bull by the horns and sell its own stimulant drinks and supplements out of the company store. Then these things wouldn't/shouldn't happen.
If this is really the case and they are catching people taking Rockstar and such, it could be start of a very long list woldwide.

Once again may fellow bloggers as I said before running a faster time 9.90 isn't an easy task and any individual who does so needs to be scrutinized. But of course this is unlikely to happen especially if he is an American athlete. I just love it, all these positive test and individuals withdrawing from events.

there are 100s if not 1000s of drinks to choose. Pick a different one. And agree w long sox.... wonder how much you'd have to drink of the stuff to fail the test?
Rodgers is a small guy, I can see 2 cans giving him a positive.

I didn't say whether or not she was going to Daegu I just find it interesting that she didn't enter and Richard Thompson was forced to run........

What's in some of those drinks is shocking, particularly amounts of stimulants like caffeine. That's why NCAA has a ban level for caffeine: They're trying to reign in the overuse of energy drinks.

using your own eyes and head is not a bad idea too.
i.e. sprinter starts improving radically with a sudden change in body and especially facial features (you do not get this effect by working out).
in the public domain we had Charlie Francis then Conte and a few others. they told you what is going on.
Rogers has improved 0.09 over 2 seasons, not exactly the kind of improvement that raises eyebrows.

I don't see the bearing on the testing and blood passports at Daegu. Do you mean there was testing at the T&T meet so she didn't want to go? She can be tested at any time. It looks like a few people wanted exemptions because it's a meet that should have been held earlier in the season but the track hadn't been laid. For anyone heading for Daegu it's a distraction. She was exempted precisely because her race was a no-contest, she didn't have anything to prove. Same applied to a female shot putter. Thompson had to compete because 6 men with the A or B standard had to be chased down to 3.

Good points, except for the Russian "woman," who was really a team of women.
why does it matter that he has a stimulant if he's not competing at the time? aren't the benefits of that pretty short term?
