I guess this means Goucher has overcome her hip injury and ready to PR at Worlds?
It also means the Davila gave up her 5km spot since was next in line (6th vs Fleshman 8th at USATF) to get it with her 15:08 PR.
Davila is a class act and if she had gone to Worlds in the 10km she would have placed extremely well!
I don't understand why everyone on here is talking about Davila being better than Goucher. Besides Boston has she ever beaten Kara or come even close to her times? let's not forget Kara just had a few months before Boston.
Am I missing something here or is that Boston race enough to vault her to the top of American Distance Running?
It is certainly enough to vault her to the top of American marathoning. She just ran a PR 5k and Goucher is hurting, so it is not unreasonable to think she's in currently better than Goucher.

It could be coaching, and it could be that Desi is just an unstoppable force, but she's been closing in on Kara for a while now. It's kind of like a Greek tragedy: it's time to accept the inevitable.

That was because Desi made the choice to fully recover from Boston to make sure that she didn't run into injuries later. This caused Desi to not quite be ready at Nationals. Kara decided to get back on the track immediately. This allowed Kara to be sharper at Nationals. AND HURT NOW. Desi would bury Kara today.
It would be very sad if Kara tanks it at Worlds due to injury or not being sharp when clearly Desi is ready to crush her 10km PR.
It is about putting the best USA team out there and this is what Desi did for Fleshman.
She made the team. What world do you live in where you would give up a spot to a world championship race that you had won a bronze medal in prior?

at Nationals Desi was 15:25 and 31:37. That means that if you take her 5k time and double it, you need to add 47 seconds to get her 10k time.
Her 15:08 (run in London) doubled plus 47 means that she could of run a 31:03 this past weekend. Probably about a 30:55 in 3 more weeks.
It will be interesting to see what Kara is able to produce coming off of injury.

I don't know why Kara supporters are so SENSITIVE. If Kara is ready to roll then great but if she pulls a ritz 04 (due to hip injury) then she will just look bad. No need to bash. It is all about sportsmanship and putting your best foot forward or your fellow teammate's foot:) Go USA
Kara has never been known for being interested in anyone but Kara. Her decision will NEVER take anyone else into consideration. Congrats to Desiree. You have proven yourself to be a better marathoner than Kara and a much better person.

Don't understand why you would race Worlds with a stress reaction. She clearly has the big picture in mind... :-/ I think we all know who will be in contention for a medal in London... and her initials certainly are not K.G.
All kidding aside, apparently by passing up Daegu, Davila helped give the spot to Amy Hastings, who was her teammate at Arizona State and is still a good friend.
Hastings spot was secure no matter what Des did. She finished 2nd at the trials, Huddle has the A therefore Hastings with the B was secure. What I find interesting is how many of you seem so quick to call Kara out but Huddle gets a pass. She didn't run for a month and has said for everyone to hear that her expectations have totally changed for worlds. Translation: I'm just happy to be going. My guess is that Kara does well at Worlds and Huddle bombs.
Do we know if Desi did not want to run or if she didn't feel right taking a spot from Fleishman who recently beat her by 8 seconds. Right now the best team would be Fleishman, Desi and Hastings.
