So if I am reading the USATF guidelines correctly (only runners in the top 4 of Nationals can go) the USA team will consist of one A runner and one B runner (i.e. AB).

If either Hastings or Bizzarri had run the A standard then it would have been an AAB team going.

So it looks like Huddle and Hastings are the team.

USATF could send a full team if they chose to but that would be against their own guidelines. Perhaps they should expand on the number of "time chasers" in the future or give themselves some kind of loophole to add a runner that performs some type of A+ performance when the team is not full.

Why the hell should she. She kicked Desi's ass at Nationals in both the 10k and the 5k. Much like I will kick her ass at the marathon trials.

I don't know. Maybe she'd rather run the 5000 and doesn't want to double. I'm just asking if the combination works as far as filling out the team.

I don't think they will offer it to Fleshman. Was she even in the USATF 5000m? Opens up too many cans of worms. I would say, at the very least, they have to start the race at Nationals.Hopefully Lauren uses this as a springboard for next year and makes the Olympic team.

Fleshman ran it and came in 8th.

... and I hope Des gets the 10,000 spot. And Fleshman gets the 5K spot. Both are very deserving.

Huddle is going to be in no condition to run and should give up her spot too. It would be one thing to go if no one else was eligible but with the new "rules" others are qualified and more fit.

Exactly. If Molly decided right now not to go, the only people that could replace her (have A standard) are Jen Rhines (already running 10k) and Desi (already turned down a spot).

Well did Desi turn it down because she didn't want to run or did she turn it down because she didn't want to take it from Fleishman who soundly beat her by 8 seconds in London? If Desi wanted to run the team should be Fleishman, Hastings and Davilla. If not then Huddle should go a la the broken footed Ritz in 2004....maybe this is the case.

Just curious... Is there any reason Fleshman shouldn't be given the 3rd spot? Is there someone who beat her at Nationals and has the A standard that should go ahead of her that has not already declined? It seems logical for Fleshman to take the 3rd spot.
