15:08.64! This is the great American result of the day, not in terms of its quality per se, but in terms of what it means for her what she can do in the marathon.

It was a great run and she looked very comfortable. Bodes very well. Presumably her next marathon is the trials - can anybody confirm?
Desi rocks.
Hells yeah desi is a beast. What did she run at usas 15:29? I can't wait for the trials.
2 things that you should know about Desiree.
1. She has run faster than her previous marathon every time. Boston 07--Trials 08--Chicago 08--WC 09--Chicago 10--Bost0n 11
2. She has represented the US 6 times. Chiba Ekiden (5k), World Road 20k, World Road Half Marathon, 10k in Yokohama Ekiden,World Championship Marathon, World Indoor 3000. She has run a PB 100% of the time.
She is money.
Desi does it
(Running Times cover for September)
This woman will eventually have the AR in the marathon. She continues to get faster for the shorter distances and she understands the marathon.
Great result for her, congratulations Desi.
There will be a sub 2:20 marathon for her in the future.
She has to be the favorite for the trials.
Best of luck to her with her training.
The Trials are going to be fun to watch.
Classic example of having a great track season off of marathon strength. I wish she was going to Daegu. Fleshman too for that matter. Because of where everyone was in their season or recovering from injuries, the trials didn't do a great job of picking the team for the women's 5000.
Wow!!! Davila I think is the most promising USA runner right now. I seriously could see her as a medal thread in 2012.
she will go to Daegu if she wants. USATF softened their stance on top 4 chasing standard, so assuming rhines doesn't double (why would she?), Desi should be on the 5k squad.
correction, she will go if the capricious USATF wants. But forget about WCs, as great as it would be for her, her future is the marathon--not even Shalane has a chance against Defar and co in the 5.
din't Lewy-Boulet just run around 15;10 at age 38 this week?

If she is running competitive times in an event that is two hours and five minutes less pain, I think she knows where her future lies
Goucher and Flannagan are faster thsn her at 5000 and have more talent in the marathon. 2nd in a weak Boston field is not the same as second in New York, the premiere womans field year after year. Good result for Desi still.
with that 2:22 she is way better than Flanagan. She is clean too (as is Flanagan).

Do you mean KARA Goucher (or Adam)? Because Kara finished 2 minutes behind Desiree in that same weak Boston.
Coaching makes a difference. A 15:30 Hansons 5k runner will beat a 14:50 Salazar athlete in the marathon.
A 14:00 Hansons runner will beat a 13:20 Salazar athlete as well.
Desi beat Kara when Desi was a 15:30 5k runner. Desi is now a 15:08 runner which means that Kara needs to run 14:30 if she wants to play in the same sandbox as Desi in the marathon.

LOL. POD.
Salazar is living proof that success in an event doesn't mean you can coach it.
All available evidence shows that he simply CANNOT coach the marathon. In spite of attracting an incredible stable of talent, he has had no coaching success in the distance whatsoever. In fact, he has a track record of making great athletes WORSE in the marathon (e.g. Ritz).
I really hope that when Mo Farah moves to the marathon he finds a new coach and training group. Maybe Mahon, maybe Schumacher, maybe Hansons...ANYONE but Alberto "career wrecker" Salazar.

When the diff is 2:06 get back to us. Because 15:08 isn't really that great on the world scene. Nice race for her, but let's not call her a track girl now.
