Simpson, Bizzarri, Koll have rough start as Pro's

Didnt Koll have some massive PRs last summer just after turning pro. Then ran well at US XC then world fair then hurt.

Bizzarri seems to be a little below the other two anyway. Hopefully im wrong and i could be she seems more like a 1505-1515 runner to me. She had some good times/PRs earlier in the summer.

Has Simpson had a single very good race since the NCAA xc thing. She won indoor mile i remember that. Hopefully she can get going again.

The point is you cant just list peoples worst performances of the last 6 months and be like oh they have been doing bad.

They've all been doing more or less fine. I think if most of us were judged on just our last 6 months of running we'd have a hard time making some huge case that we're headed for greatness. The best we can hope for from them is a long career with good performances. We don't need them to overtrain by age 23 and be a flash in the pan.

It's a tougher transition than most any of you on these forums could fathom.

As the poster above said, we don't need them fizzling out at age 23. They're in it for the longer term, and it generally takes at least a year out of college to adjust to a new coach and new training. Give em' time.

The WC are 3 weeks away from NOW. This is the time that you judge elite athletes. Not what they ran in the Billy Bob Thorton 5k in March. If you are not producing in August then you are a non factor. Koll, Simpson, and Bizzari are most certainly having a rough transition. Does this mean that they will not have long and productive careers? Hell no, but it is ignorant to say that they have not had a rough transition.

Last year at this time there were posters on this board that were guaranteeing that Koll was going to make the Olympic team in the marathon and that Bizzari was going to be a factor in the 10k. Those things are further away now than they appeared to be last year at this time. And Koll's times from last summer were an extension of her college career and had nothing to do with the transition to the elite level.

Barringer followed the NCAA xc thing by having possibly the best track season ever by a collegiate runner........

He troll all those track times happened the year before her breakdown. XC and track always happen in different years if they occur during the same school year

Shalane Flanagan had a rough start to her professional career as well. Give it time.

JBS is a shadow of her former self, as was Billy Nelson after he left Wetmore. I have not one iota of doubt: JSB should retain to CU.

Dear God, please don't tell me you believe what you just said.

No offense to the others, but I think their progression as pros is fairly normal. Particularly, considiering their college credentials.

Simpson needs to return to Wetmore. Simple.

Why should we be that surprised that the first year out of college is such a struggle? First year out of high school is usually a big struggle even for the top prep stars. new lifestyle, new coach usually, etc.
