What do you think the most impressive world record is (not including the 100m and 200m)? I would have to say the 12:37.35 in the 5k by Bekele.

It is clearly Daniel Komen's 7:20.67 in 3000m.
Wilt Chamberlain being with 20,000 women

Just to be sure, is that superior to his 7:58?
I think it's the 3000m as well. Kenenisa, El G, no one has gotten close.
Marita Koch (400)
Paula Radcliffe (Marathon)
Both won't be broken during our lifetimes. Can't say this about Daniel Komens or Bekeles WRs.
Women's 3000m very closely followed by women's marathon

Bolt 9.58.
I don't think people understand how ridiculous that time really is. If he doesn't beat it again, this probably won't be broken in any of our lifetimes.
3:50 in 1500 by Yunxia Qu
Totally fraud.

No, it won't. If you look at all time results, the 2nd best woman ran 3.5 min slower than Paula. And that performance is 10 years old. The more recent closest performance is 2:19:12, almost 4 min off. 4min equals almost 1min per 10k. Impossible. It could take another 100 years.

Actually his 19.19 is alot more ridiculous. People run sub 10 all the time. No one really runs sub 20. And to almost go 18 seconds....unreal.
When Michael Johnson ran 19.32 it looked like he had infinite endurance. And to see a 19.19 look that raggedy like Bolt made it....(all the puffing of the cheeks, the rocking motion from his body contrasted by Johnson's relatively still frame)
Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell can both go 9.58. Given a 2.0 wind. But no one has even come close to 19.19. Their struggling to go under 20.
8:06>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>29:31
Dibs could have run 29:30 back in 08 if she took the event seriously like the 5k. I mean, she ran 29:53 with a 2:47 final kilometre and a 60 second final lap - and in less than ideal conditions.

Yeah, I agree with this. The women's 10k record, while obviously very VERY good, can someday be broken by great pacing, perfect conditions, and strong competition. Same with the women's marathon.
The women's 3000m (and for that matter, any distance shorter than that) are unlikely to ever be broken. It would take massive doping to alter a woman enough to get her to that level. I'm assuming massive-enough quantities of doping of that level would be detected.
Many good posts on this thread, but I still have to go with "Beamonesque". Maybe it's just my American bias.

No disrespect but mentioning the women's 10000m record and the Marathon record in the same sentence shows that you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Those are miles apart. I know Mcmillan tables are flawed and everything but 29:31 is worth about 2:18. That's 3 minutes off the WR.
Paulas WR won't be broken anytime soon.
Mary Keitany could break 29:31, no doubt. But she won't even come close to 2:15. Ever.
By pure numbers I would say any of the women's sprint records (100-800). But those records are suspect as hell. I know that many of the men's and women's WRs are drug fueled, but those women's sprint records just scream "WTF?"
It's hard to pick one, because all WRs in track&field are intrinsically phenomenal achievements. Bolt's 19.19 comes to mind. When a world class sprinter runs somewhere in the realm of 19.6-19.7 (a rare feat itself) it really catches the attention of the track world. That's a great 200m time. Bolt ran 19.GODDAMN NINETEEN. Before that run I thought Michael Johnson's 19.32 was one of the most ridiculous records in the books. And then Bolt breaks it twice.
Kobayashi's hot dog-eating world record is untouchable. His taco-eating world record from this past weekend is also pretty solid.
