how long should a tempo be for a 800/1500 specific runner be? Mainly want to run the 1500m.
My tempos are longest 4 miles at 5:40-6:00 miles. Usually start at about 6min miles and progress to about 5:40ish...these are usually ran on trails.
sometimes I will run a 3 mile tempo at the same pace and then do a thousand after about 1 minute rest just to break it up and if I'm not feeling great.
I would say my tempos sometimes if I'm feeling good don't hurt till the last mile. I try to stay relaxed for the first 2 miles...push a bit the 3rd and 4th mile strong but hard.
I want to know how long one should be. I do a long run every week and get up to about 10 miles. Sometime if I'm feeling well I will run it a bit quicker towards the end (6:20 to 6:50) just really depends...but not for the whole thing.
what should I be doing and how often should these be done?
I'm a female if that matters.
