no flippin way! someone secure an interview
I remember seeing his myspace page a few years back and he looked like he totally stopped running and looked like a typical college dork getting drunk. I thought 'what a big loss."
was it really him? photo evidence?

Oh it's him, he was planning on entering IF the race directors gave him late entrance as an elite (even though he hadn't posted any times recently other than a solo 8:59 3200m at a Chabot College AC meet). He's been consistently training over he last several months, started swimming and biking less and running more and more. Had done a few Bancroft MS track 5:00-min pace or under tempos prior to Wharf to Wharf. H'e has some good talent as is willing to put in any work necessary. He needs to be held back some, otherwise injury is just around the corner.
Great to see the performance from a San Leandro, Ca resident
Seems to be him. Check out the guy wearing bib 12 (which is Leal's number in the results -
) at around 22 seconds in this video

and compare it with the photo here

4:42 pace for 6 miles isn't bad, especially for a guy who hasn't race for sometime as far as I know.
Fastest Moonie ever?
Dude!!! This needs to be bumped! Kids these days don't even know what a boss YSL was in the day! He's BACK, just barely behind 2:10 marathoner Brett Gotcher.
How old is he? And what were his personal bests? It's been too long, I forgot
He is 26, which surprised me when I just looked it up as it seems like so long ago when he was a high school star.
Interesting to see a young phenom come back to that level. I hope he gives it a full year he could be close to hitting the trials and nationals standards by next spring.
here he is leading the race early on...

i'm so glad nobody forgot who this guy was.
I'm a senior in high school right now and this guy is my idol.
I run in the HAAL (hayward area athletic league), the same league as he did, and have heard incredible things about him from several coaches, and from what i heard about this guy, he sounded like freaking prefontaine.
this interview is gold

This is what he had to say about the race in on his facebook page
Ran the 6 mile "Wharf to Wharf" road race in Santa Cruz and took 6th place out of fifteen thousand participants (30 elite runners) I was the 2nd best American to finish in a time of 28:11. I Averaged 4:42 a mile. I had to fight back some heavy tears when I crossed the finish line. Thank you so much to all of my dear friends and family for the support throughout the years. You all know who you are =) I Love you all!
i will literally cry if i see him run in the olympic trials.
Who next, Mint Henk, Peter f'ing Meindl?
