I was looking around to try and find some good elite 800 workouts. the only one i found was coes 2:08, 2:06, 2:04, 2:02, 2:00, 1:58 and 1:56 with 45 seconds rest. anyone know of any others? what has kipketer done in peak shape?
also check out horwells ideal 800 training week. i think 99% of runners, even with a decent base, could handel about a week of this:
A weekly training programme
As I've said, the 800 metres event is two-thirds anaerobic, one-third aerobic. So the training must reflect this. Here is an example of such an allocation:
Day 1: Aerobic - 80 per cent - 5 x 1K at 5K pace - 60secs rest. 95% VO2max
Day 2: Anaerobic - 83 per cent - 1 x 350, 1 x 300, 1 x 250, 1 x 200, all full out with good recovery
Day 3: Anaerobic - 67 per cent - 1 x 600, 1 x 500, 1 x 400, all at target 800m pace with good recovery. 130% VO2max
Day 4: Aerobic - 98 per cent - 10 mile run, 75secs per mile slower than for one's best mile time. 80% VO2max
Day 5: Anaerobic - 95 per cent - 3 x 4 x 200 full out with 30secs rest and 400m walk after each set
Day 6: Rest
Day 7: Race or time trial - 600m or 1200m or 400m, or in strict rotation, ie, one week, 400m, next week, 600m, third week 1200m..
