Hello,
This is my first post. I was a college shot put/hammer thrower and in the last 3-4 years have gotten into running to lose weight and to get in better life shape. I ran a half marathon just over a year ago and then a marathon over 7 months ago. I have dropped my weight from 254 to 212 pounds over that time. I am always looking for new challenges and the other day after feeling pretty good about a track workout; 4 1 mile repeats (4 min rest) 6:33, 6:27, 6:23, 5:56, I got it in my head that I want to try to run a sub-5 min mile at over 200 lbs.
I understand that I am still a long way away but I think that his is possible in the near future. I am hoping that I can get some training advice and pointers that will help me reach my goal. Currently I am trying to build up a pretty solid base of 30 miles per week, but want to really avoid doing much more mileage than that because I have found that even at 212 pounds I am very heavy for a runner and want to save my joints and avoid injury.
Any advice toward reaching this goal would be much appreciated. I would like to try to do this in one year, but realize that this might be unrealistic and am in no real rush at all.
Any thoughts or advice appreciated.
