An incredible run by Silas Kiplagat to take the Trials title easily in 3:31.39. Asbel Kiprop finished second in 3:32.26 and Daniel Kipchirir Komen finished 3rd in 3:32.47. All at altitude and with no pacers. Quite phenominal in my opinion. I believe that is a new 1500m altitude world record mark? Silas Kiplagat will be running in Monaco to retain his title from last year. I predict a very fast time again from Silas if he keeps his form up.
According to a T&FN report, there was a pacemaker. Still an incredible run.

Most kenyan runners have to peak too early in order to be selected at the trials, so it could be the case for Kiplagat. Anyway this is a great performance and all the 3 kenyans at the Wch will be a gold medal threat

Actually Lagat, Manzano, Centro and Wheating all have the A standard.. I believe Leer got the B standard today..

What are you talking about? A lot of people have the "B" Standard (3:38), but it's irrelevant because the top 4 finishers at USTAF have the "A".

Altitude adaptations do in fact mean that those raised and trained at altitude a) have very dramatic advantages over sea level athletes at altitude, b) have some advantages over sea level athletes at sea level, and c) drop far less time in racing at sea level than do sea level athletes. This is still an incredible time, but let's not grant the great Kip Keino a 3:26 equivalent just because he ran 3:34 in Mexico City and never ran faster at sea level.
Interesting that Keitany, who won Pre in 3:49 flat wasn't even in the final.
And Americans were bothered when Russell Brown didn't make the US final.
Maybe the US can steal the idea of just throwing a rabbit into the finals.
How bad of an idea can that be?

there is no pacing allowed in nationals trials and don't mistake someone trying to make to worlds as a pacer!!

Sad but true. We don't really know what goes on in these poor countries with desperated people trying to get away from poverty. It is a great place for Dr. Rosa to do his experiments without being concerned about drug tests like they do in the European cycling circuit. Not that drug tests are effective at all. The system just seem to be rotten to the core.
Silas Kiplacat in the final 50m: the closest to actually running backwards I've seen a winner go while gesturing wildly. He deserves a special mention for "altitude record while performing gymnastic gesticulation".
