When asked on Twitter what he was doing for a workout he said he was doing distance running at 6 min mile pace. Do you think that means 6:59 pace?

Well he probably doesn't run that far. 12 miles at 6:30 is significantly harder than 3-5 miles at 6:30. How much do you think he runs?
Maybe he does 5 or 6 mile runs at 6:00. Nothing hard to believe about that. Did he say how far he runs?
he probably goes out for 5-6 miler and ends it at 6:00...he prolly running 7 min at the beginning
No different than all of the "4:30" milers around here because they ran 4:39.99999999, once.

Didn't you know? Everyone who's ever run Track ran a 4:30 mile in high school.
He should practice "how not to choke in the big stage".
If he's anything like all the meatballs who work out at my fitness center with their cellphone plastered to their ear, he probably gets on the treadmill, sets it at 6 minute pace and goes for 3 minutes.
The fact that he's proud enough to mention the pace he's running at means that he feels like it is a significant accomplishment and/or difficult to achieve. He probably guts it out for 3-4 miles at 6:30/mi average, finishing at around 6:00 pace the last mile, sweating bullets.
No doubt he could run a 5 minute mile off his soccer fitness. So he might go out for a 30 minute run, and average 6 minute plus pace, then kick in the last 1/2 mile. The guy is a national class (and hopefully World Cup team member) midfielder, so he can run boys.
You guys have some serious pride issues...some people are talented, believe it or not. I don't run many miles (20 miles per week) but all of it is at 5:40-6:20, and I'm not nearly the athlete Freddy is.

you are not very good. middle schoolers run 20 miles at that pace because its not very much. now if the op mentions how many miles this guy run at 6 minutes, i would be more impressed
Freddy Adu played well in the Gold Cup, where the US eventually lost to Mexico in the finals 4-2. He impressed the coach, and it is evident that playing in Greece is helping his game. Adu is now most likely a member of the US national team.
As for running a 6 minute mile that is a cake walk for any professional soccer player. I would say most players on the US national team are in sub 5 minute mile condition. Soccer is probably the most physically demanding team sport on the cardiovascular system.

He's a soccer player, what makes you think he is a great athlete?

The days of Maradona are gone. The top-level soccer players may not do running specific training, but they will each destroy you in nearly any event, starting with 400/800.
Once, some girls on the HS XC team I coach were talking about a friend who played soccer. The girls were very good runners and in 8th grade. They were talking about another friend, on the soccer team, who told them that she ran 2 miles in under 11:00- in soccer shoes- plus she wasn't the fastest on the soccer team! The girls were floored. Turns out their 2 mile run was 8 laps around a soccer field (no track), they cut corners. Who knows how far they really ran. But I can tell you that that same girl went out fro track and couldn't run 3 miles in 25:00.
LOL Freddy Adu regardless of the pace is a really poor player.
umm, no. They may be good athletes, but if they lined up against the average college 400/800 runner they would get destroyed.

Doubt it. I know a guy who was an above average D3 soccer player and could run a 48 sec 400. I'm sure that plenty of world class players can run faster than that.

You are correct, I'm not very good, but I last mile timed I ran was in a workout and it was 4:55. Sub-five would be childs play for Freddy.
