Which makes Marius Bakken's triple at the IL state meet a few years earlier even more impressive, since Marius had to qualify on Friday in both the 800 and the 1600, and then run all three finals in the space of just over 3 hours on Saturday- he won the 3200 first in, I think, 9.07, then took second in the 800 with a 1.53 about an hour later, and then won the 1600 about 90 minutes after that in a time of 4.14. 28 points all on his own, and not a sprinter (Babatunde Ridley had won the 100, 200, LJ and TJ for Carlinville, scoring 40 points all on his own and allowing Carlinville to win the Class A meet).
Jim White had tried this around 10 years earlier but 90+ degree heat did him in. To my knowledge, these are the only 2 to do this in IL.
