Rupp's Race Proved NOTHING

You are the most chronic of all the Rupp haters. Why are you so bitter? When Galen takes "real scalps" in Monaco and Worlds, what then will be your excuse?

I don't hate Rupp. IF Rupp wins a medal at Daegu or London, I'll be the first to assert that this is a stupendous achievement. It is not likely to happen, and this race does not tell me anything new about Galen. IF it tells you something new, please enlighten me about your previous ignorance...

Allow me to chime in: I'd say that it does indeed show us something new about Rupp- that he is currently able to close out very quickly off of a relatively fast pace. Big difference being able to outkick solid international competitors in a 54 second final 400 while running 13:06 v. kicking 1:52 in a 28:30.

Does it mean he's any more of a medal threat than he was? No. Even if he is a 12:58 guy (time will tell), I doubt that means he's a legit medal threat... not when there will be plenty of 12:50 guys to beat. But is it conceivable that the WCs will be won in 13:0x? Absolutely. And Rupp showed he can at least mix it up.

Let's keep things realistic though- Rupp is having a great year and coming along nicely, but a medal is still a long shot. Farah, on the other hand, looks like a legitimate favorite for top 3.

Really? Rupp just dominated a guy who, this year, has won World XC and run 26:48 and 12:54.

Since you're so nonchalant about this result, please point us to where you publicly predicted Rupp outkicking Merga and Alamirew down the homestretch. You know what they say about hindsight...

Rupp beat Imane Merga, #1 in the world last year. I'd say that counts for something.

Well, I'll take the compliment with a grain of salt, but it is true that Rupp appears to have been on roughly 13:15 pace with one lap to go. So he was on about 26:30 10,000 meter pace when he unleashed the last lap.

It proves that Rupp can't beat his training partner. And if Rupp can't beat Mo, and he can't been Legat (even when Lagat ran a 1500 the day before), his medal prospects are essentially nil.

But it also proves that Merga needs more than 10 days to recover from a hard 5000 (he ran at Lausanne). This may mean that Merga won't handle heats well.

Newsflash, RUPP ALSO RAN A RACE THE DAY BEFORE!!!, a race which was later in the day, which was an actual finals not a semi, and which was 8500m longer.

No, it doesn't. Do you realize that Imane Merga and Joseph Ebuya are two different people with different histories and different credentials?

Rupp can't win on the boards. Rupp could win a gold medal at WC, and people would still say that Mo/Immane/Tariku were just 'warming up' for the Olympics next year and gave it to him.

While I agree with you that Rupp will not win any medals in Deagu, the race was telling on other ways.

He has clearly shown he has moved up to another level, and is well on his way to a sub 13.

Give him another year to mature and he will be a medal threat in a big race.
