I admit, I am disappointed he did not go under 13, but this race was far better than an American has done since 2007 (maybe 2009). He is without a doubt better than Solinsky, or any American save Lagat. Incredible day for him.
Anyone get Rupps last 1200? Thought he was around 10:11 - 10:12 with 2 to go which would have put him at 2:54ish.
Am I correct?
went thorugh 3km in 8.01/2...
Will he medal in Daegu?
How is Rupp better than Solinski? Explain.
I'm pretty sure that the leaders hit 2 laps to go at 11:15, which means they closed in 1:51-1:52. Pretty impressive. I had Galen at 54 for the last 400

I have to admit he is definitely better than Solinsky the guy who has beaten him in both the 5000 and the 10000 the last times they met in those distances. Clearly he is better than both Bekeles and Geb as well.

He hasn't proven it on the track, that's for sure. I wouldn't be shocked to see Rupp beat Solinski this summer, but until he does, you have to say that Solinski's better.
This is a sad post.

Obviously, this person has missed Teg's 13:04 (many years ago) and all of the sub 13's Ritz, Lagat, Solinsky, and Teg
Where were Kenenisa Bekele, T. Bekele, Bernard Lagat, Sol, Teg, James Kwalia, C'Kurui Moses, Ndiema Kipsiro, Eliud Kipchoge, Ali Abdosh? Where?

THEY WERE HIDING FROM RUPP! DUH!!!
Farah and Rupp were 9:06 middle with four laps to go.. so 4:00.xx for the last 1600m... 10:09 high... 11:13 low...
While it wasn't the sub 13 for which most were hoping, it was much more like a championship race - moderately fast with a big close. Rupp's 1:52 at USATF was off of a very slow pace - but to close in 1:53.xx today in a race where he PR'ed certainly bodes well for Daegu.

both are a work in progress, not a finished product. it's worth noting that rupp had a big breakthough a couple years ago and seemed to plateau last year while solinsky seemed to stabilize from around 2008 or 2009 and then broke out last year.
If Rupp breaks out again this summer (and it seems like he is)his momentum may give him the upper hand on peformances and times this year over solinsky. But both will keep improving.
Actually this race answered another big question with Rupp. We all knew he had great finishing speed from 600M out. But there was criticism that he could only do it off an absurdly slow pace. Running 54 (reportedly) final lap off of sub 13:20 pace is huge.

How is it a sad post? I said 2007 had better performances, Lagat and Teg, and 2009, Ritz's 5k. Rupp just outkicked Merga for 2nd place off a fast pace. I never said this was the best performance by an American ever, simply the best 5k performance since 2009, calm down.
Solinsky is still a better time-trialer. And really what else matters.
wow he kicked off a 13:24 pace
wow that's really fast
