Ajee Wilson looked boxed in for the first 500m then on the backstrech an opening came and she took with Amy going with her around the penulitimate turn. On the homestrech she opens a 10m lead in less then 60 meters then eases up 20-30 meters from the line. Amy fades in the last 50m and falls as she crosses the finish line.

Amy Weissenbach is clearly a great talent but you could tell she was running on tired legs, long season for the young lady. No exaggeration Ajee Wilson never looked fatigued when she decide to go the other young ladies had no answer.
Ajee Wilson eased up the last 20-30 meters from the line after she looked on the big screen and saw noone was going to catch her- she could have run possibly run sub 2:02!

Look at this video the other girls was clearly running for second. Ajee toyed with the field! She surely could have run faster.

Ajee ran a very mature race. Did not panic even when boxed in. Amy spent almost the whole race in lane 2 however. Ajee might be a bit fresher since she missed the NJ MOC with ankle sprain. She still has that ankle wrapped as you can see in video.

Watch the video again - she gets caught between Judd and Wilson and is in lane 1.5, Judd goes with wilson and AW is scrunched between the two. Wilson is already well by when AW stumbles a bit, its more lilely she got tangled up with Judd.
Well you've got to give it up for both Americans. It was only expected that Ajee would win, considering her previous involvement with International competition. In other words shes got more experience and her times have been consistent. She dropped down to 2:04 last year and successively worked her way down to 2:02. Amy, on the other hand, is new to the three round competition, and has been weary due to all post-high school races. She had been wearing kinesio tape on her hamstring as well. She also hasn't been consistent with her times. She dropped from 2:06 to 2:02 never having done so. Her time of 2:03 is pretty darn good anyway. We'll just have to wait and see what she can do next year.
Excuses excuses. Of the posters who did talk about this race more people was putting Amy and Jessica as the favorites, now Ajee dominates and all of sudden no big deal she was expected to win. Whatever!
Congrats to Amy Weissenbach, Chunyx Wang, Jessica Judd, and Ajee Wilson they all ran gutsy races. Ajee was clearly the best youth runner this year despite her ankle injury and early Letsrun doubters.

Only on letsrun would people try to argue that an ankle sprain somehow gives a runner a benefit. Are people that unable to give a non-white runner credit?
Great race from both americans. Pretty impressive from judd to medal, shes run a 9:08 3000m this season as well.
No it's kinda rare on Letsrun that an African American does well and gets credit. This is youth competition but it's a World IAAF International meet and she just played with the field and see the response.
How many 800m GOLD medals have the U.S won in any World Outdoor, World Indoor, World Jr, World Youth, or Olympics in the last 40 years? You would think this would be BIG news not an after thought to a GP meet. I'm happy for Galen (even brag about him on the thread with the 5000m video) but what he did today doesn't compare to the accomplishment of Ajee Wilson!
Seriously Letsrun where's the entire page or at least a bold header on the front page of Ajee capturing the USA first international 800m gold medal since the stone age?
its probly not there because its World Youth, which doesnt have the same draw as a national championship of any level, or a professional international championship

This one, Krummenacker in World Indoor 2002, and Wottle in 1972? I think that covers it.
I really hope she continues to do well. She'll become a legend once she wins big time.

She's already won everything big a 16 or 17 yr old could win in her age category. I hope she runs World Junior next year and not the Olympic Trials and take the high school record under 2 minutes and Amy gets second. That would be amazing and it's possible.
