6:45 per mile training pace is very slow for a guy who was running sub-28 10ks. It would also seem boring. I don't know how he managed it

Wejo ran 8 minute pace at 7500+ feet, was ~75 seconds slower than these athletes over 10k, and was running at a significantly higher volume (120-140 per week) than Galen and Mo.
I was probably a 30:00 10k guy in my prime and I could easily cruise my 10 mile easy runs at 6:10 pace without feeling any effort (some days were slower though of course). This does not surprise me at all.

I'd like have this bookmarked for the next 14something 5k runner that says that any running slower than 6:00min/mi is a waste of time.
'Probably a 30:00 10k guy in my prime' is exactly what it says.
For example, I ran 4:02 for the mile and 13:53 for the 5k in college but never an 10k on the track. When I was in shape I could probably run under 30 for the 10k. At least that is what I got from that individuals post.

Running faster actually would save time.

5:45 is nothing.
Don't we all know runners wayyyyy slower than Mo that run their easy days around 5:45-6 min pace? Doesn't seem shocking to me.
I worry about Farah running with Rupp - in the end, it seems like Salazar's investment is going to be in the USA athlete he's coached since high school and not the British one he's just started coaching. It seems like all the rest of Rupp's training partners keep getting injured etc. under Salazar - I just don't know if it came down to a final with both runners if Salazar would ever want Farah to win over Rupp, and I wonder if that's going to be reflected, even subconsciously, in the way he trains Farah.
Meanwhile Lagat does his 8 milers starting at 5:20 pace getting to 5 flat
I ran my times back in the 70's. I'm not sure what you really want me to prove by typing my name or linking results. 4:02 and 13:53 blow your mind? My point still stands on all accounts.

I imagine they also run a workout at some point in the week... on those days, they might not run 17-20 miles, even if that's their "normal day" distance and pace.
e.g.
M - 10 miles + track workout
T - 17-20 miles
W - 17-20 miles
Th - 13 mile tempo
F - 17-20 miles
S - 10 miles + track workout
S - 17-20 miles
= a 100-115 mile week, for example.

Coached a lot of 26:49 to 27:30 10k runners in your time? Or run a lot of 2;08's, low 27:22 type races your self? I'll go with al sal.
