I think that this would actually raise awareness/popularity for our sport. People would actually like this. Basically like a running version of the TDF. Here's the idea:
7 consecutive days/stages.
The overall fastest time wins.
You can win individual days but not win it all, and you can win it all without winning an individual day (ideally, there would be prestige in winning even a single day).
The stages would vary in length. Anywhere from a mile to a marathon.
Maybe days 5 and 6 are "Mountain" stages (big uphills).
Maybe on the last day you have a marathon, or at least make that the longest day (or the shortest. Special in some way. Maybe a huge climb).
Races are done on roads, but scenic, rural, deserted ones.
Maybe you even throw in some cool jerseys, like one for the guy with the biggest kick or the guy currently winning.
Maybe the first day (prologue) everybody does an individual mile TT.
Non runners and less serious runners (a much larger market than only competitive runners, let's be honest there are like 5 competitive runners out there) would actually be interested in this.
And then maybe some rules that promote the field being mostly westerners. The fact of the matter is that people who are not super interested in distance running turn their heads away from the screen when the entire field is african.
I would legitimately want to watch this.
