Wow! That looks like me in a race. Going fine, and then someone blasts right by me and in the next 10 seconds has put 30 meters on me.

Bedford was cool. And, the man who gave the name to the Black Socks Brits was wearing red socks-as has been stated many times on letsrun.

An unbelievable run. 5 laps out he throws in an approx. 56.9 -- assuming he went through the line about 0.4 behind the leader -- and he didn't take off on that lap until about 350 meters remaining in it.
Relaxing down the last home stretch, he still covered the final 5 laps / 2000m in 5:01.x

You don't see that tactic much anymore these days. Throwing in a fanatical surge in the middle of a 5,000/10,000 and just hanging on with blood and guts.
Our tv announcers have to listen to that guy- over and over again.

This is dropping the field. I know it's over played but...
Komen's last 3000 was about 7:34, which is faster than any
american but Lagat, Kennedy, Maree, and maybe Solinsky.
Snell x 2, esp. the 1500 (about 2:15 in).

Granted, qualifies more as a kick than dropping the field, but he was obviously running a different race than everyone else.
Maybe my favorite is one I can't find video for: Halberg's 5000 win at Rome, 1960. (Here's a clip with his three-miles win in the Empire Games, two years before:

)
With three laps to go, Halberg just takes off, runs about a 60 (the WR was 13:35, remember), and puts the field 20-30y back. They come back at him, but can't quite get there. He hits the finish a few yards clear, takes about two steps, and hits the deck.

David Coleman - greatest announcer in athletics history, wish the US could get someone like him to call our races, he was amazing.
Sort of obvious. But click on just about any video of Henry Rono posted on YouTube.
This year's Payton Jordon 10000 was pretty good too. I forget who it was that did it.
Um, ever heard of Bob Costas?

Go to Flotrack and look up the video of Karoki at this year's Payton Jordan 10000 m. Yowsa.
