Dmitry Karpov is a strong contender for Bronze based on potential. (He'll never contend for gold as long as his javelin sucks.)

Aleksandr Pogorelov, Aleksey Sysoyev, ????? Drozdyov.....

Michael Schrader & Pascal Behrenbruch both turned in some good scores in 2009. (Schrader won Hypo 2009, I think.)

I don't know if Maurice Smith is still competing, but he was among the top contenders just a few years ago. He's probably past his peak though.

Don't assume Clay isn't up there with Hardee & Eaton. Clay is fantastic, and I think it's not too late for him to throw out a 9000+ & new WR. But he'd better hurry, before Eaton puts it too far out of reach.

3,4,5 years ago, I thought Krauchenka was the future WR holder. But he's not improved much since then. But he's still very young, he & the 3 cubans could give Eaton & Hardee some serious competition for the next 4-6 years.

Ah, now I remember: Yunior Diaz. Not this year, but he could be a contender by 2012 Olys.

Diaz is Cuban.

Clay did not qualify at the US championships. If it comes down to the last event I think Eaton will win. He is the better 1500 runner.

Suarez is going to be good. He is decent in every event. I think it was Berlin where he ran 46.xx in the 400 to end the first day. I was pretty impressed.

Clay will almost surely still compete at Worlds this year because we don't have enough 'A' standard guys without him (or Jake Arnold) to fill the 4 slots (the 2nd place guy at USAs only got the 'B' standard, and we can only take 1 of those). It's a simple appeals procedure that USATF is likely to approve for Bryan, so that we don't send only 3 out of our 4.

I think it was Diaz who ran 46.x but my pick for 3rd is Suarez. His javelin and 1500 meter ability are a huge benefit to close out a dec. Trey for 1st Ashton for 2nd (wr at Olympics however)
