Am I the only one watching who saw the epic face plant from the Virginia Tech girl?
Hey there Delilah.. there's a gift for you: a trip to the world championships because of a college girl tripping on her last water jump.

Garcia is from Virginia, not Virginia Tech. And she looked like she could barely lift her legs coming up to the final water barrier. I was not surprised to see her face plant.
Good on Delilah.
Always glad to see more former Ivy Leaguers making the team!
She actually might have caught her anyways. She was closing strong.
She was coming back fast, and Delilah closed hard. As noted, it looked like she was going to catch her. And that's also part of the steeple, not tripping. It sucks but it was exciting to watch!
It's also probably better to send a pro who has planned her training around a summer of racing over a collegiate who raced hard all year. Garcia has a bright future though! Glad to see there is such a strong young crop and this is without Pierce and Simpson.

Good on Delilah.
Are you actually stating, "good on Delilah" because Garcia fell and Delilah advanced because of this?
Please Garcia is strong and would not have been caught if she hadn't fallen.
Delilah was extremely LUCKY and took advantage of Garcia's misfortune. And well she should have. But she too could have been a bit upfront about it and admitted this in her interview.
Because Delilah is delusional if she thinks she would have caught her. And even more delusional if she thinks she will make the olympic team. There is no way. Garcia is up and coming. Delilah has always been an "also ran" and the only reason she got as much attention as she did was because of that stupid song.
Clearing the barriers safely and efficiently is as much a part of hurdles and steeplechase as running fast is; the latter is super important but only the former can deliver you to the finish line. Nobody should need to acknowledge or 'be upfront' about another runner's fall as the reason for their success in these events, although I think this may be at least sometimes appropriate in the flat races.

It's not Delilah's fault or anyone else besides Garcia's fault and it's not like it was some random event. You're more likely not to get over the barrier when you're falling apart.
Was Rowbury "extremely LUCKY" to make the team due to CWT's poor strategy?
And a lot of people have Olympic dreams and don't make it. Some of them probably are delusional about it, but someone who just made a World's team doesn't fall into that group. Is she supposed to stop running because you think she's an "also ran"?

No. Rowbury looked strong on the final stretch. Had Christin not taken off in a suicidal pace, she would have stayed with her and the two of them would have battled it out to the finish. Rowbury has outkicked Christin before. No reason to believe that she could not do it again.
I looked at the video of that last WJ, and Garcia was clearly "running backwards."
I'm not sure why, but it seems like nowadays hardly any runners mark (or at least *note*) the point at which they're going to start their accelerated approach to that barrier. Garcia was just caught offstride and trying to adjust her steps on her way to the barrier--something that's tough enough to do, even when you're not really tired.
Garcia's fall was more sad than unfortunate. she wasn't in traffic, she didn't get pushed, and there was nothing wrong with the barrier. She just stuffed the jump. Maybe she was rigging up, or maybe she just isn't great over the barriers.
Either way, Delilah was third best steepler on saturday, and deserves her place. So, "good on her" for earning her first trip to track WCs.
It sucks that she fell though. I wouldn't wish a barrier crash on anyone.
Delilah, a Puma athlete, is just damn lucky that Garcia isn't a Nike pro yet.
If she was, there's no doubt Delilah would have been DQed for some bullsh!t to get Garcia on the squad.

Garcia had just passed Delilah and was pulling away, before she fell at the water jump.

Correct--I was only referring to her approach to the jump itself.
You can't see in the race video how hard Delilah was closing on Garcia. The last you can tell there was a good gap, but you miss 100m. Here is how close they were at the water pit:

She was making up A LOT of ground fast. If it wasn't for the fall, she was going to pass her anyway in the last 150.
Garcia is ahead here too.
