This race was for the National championship, where only 3 guys, so long as the have the A standard of 27:40 qualify for WC. Of the 18 or so runners in the field only 4 had the standard prior to race time and all they had to do was run a good tactical race to qualify.
Its the other 14 or so runners who did not have the A standard prior to race time that has me so confused. Of this group, approximately 78% of the field, you would think at least 1 guy would take the race out in an effort to achieve the A standard time, otherwise what the hell is the point of even competing. Perhaps most of them were just interested in front row seats to watch Rupp and Teg race? Baus in theis case ends up a surprising 3rd ahead of Nelson and Curtis and now the dumb-ass has to race another 10K, probably in warmer, tougher conditions to get the standard, otherwise he does not qualify for WC?
Why not just try to do it last night? Something is definately fooked up with this?
