Paula Radcliffe ran one of the finest distance races of all time with a stunning time of 14.31 after a first lap of 76 seconds seemed to put any thoughts of a fast time out of mind.
Paula led from 600m into the race to the finish and she is without a doubt an inspiration to all.
who would be against her going close to 30 minutes in the upcoming euro champs over 10k.

1 word: AMAZING!!!! She took out Gaby Szabo's European Record too! She just missed Gete Wami's unofficial world record.... She is just unstoppable. I want a Radcliffe poster from Ebay.

Having spent two weeks with Paula in Ireland, nothing she does really surprises Weldon or me. We both thing that the women's 10k should be under 30 (i know the chinese have done it) and she's most definitely the one to do it.
She's just so tough and trains like an animal.

PS. Tigerlily is that you? I imagine not. -
Doesn't Olga Yegorova hold the European record at 14:29?
I'm pretty sure Russians are included.
If you're lucky, the Commonwealth Games are covered on CBC. I could have easily taped this but didn't know the schedule. All the tv listings had were the men's amd women's marathons. -
Fredo,
Did you tape the marathons??? If so, I'd seriously love to get a copy and would pay you.....gimmee a shout & let me know. [email protected]

The clean ones are... -
Yo Skylon-I dropped the ball on that one. I'm going to be sure to get the rest of the meet. Unlike most years my CBC cable reception is excellent since our local cable provider switched. I'm on the case for the rest of the meet. I've already missed a great 10 and women's 5000.

Jersey Guy I hear ya. Its a shame someone can still get totally busted and caught red-handed but the screw-ups that run this sport still let it go on. Still I have to go what's in the books. No one will ever really know what all the "clean" records are unless they wipe the slate clean, start over, and seriously enforce their drug policy.
On a side note, its interesting that assuming all Chinese records were doped up that the 5000 isn't faster. The 3000 and 10,000 seem much better to me. -
Russia is part of Asia, so Yegorova doesn't count in european records
-
They run at the European Champs so the specific Geography can't mean that much.
-
I guess that may be true, I didn't look to see who runs at Euros...
-
Russia is most definitely part of Europe, at least the most populous cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg are. The Ural Mountains are the border between Europe and Asia. So while Vladivostock may be in Asia, most Russians actually live in Europe.
As to the Chinese records, the reason the 5000 mark is not as impressive as the 3000 or 10,000 one is that the 5000 was not part of most major championships in the heyday of Ma's Army. -
Training for a marathon took the speed out of her legs. Otherwise she would have run faster. Right?

Does every elite runner have asthma? -
russia is most certainly a european country guys. radcliffe does rock. missed the race last night sadly. the mens 5k is on 6.27 on wednesday night. that's 6.27 my time (uk). watch out for our guy Sam Haughian. ran 13.25 in rome a few weeks back. he's taken 21 secs off his pb this year! just 22 too. he'd roast ritz. maybe!

Does anyone have her splits from the race, or know where I can check them out? (mile or lap splits?)
-
I believe that Radcliffe is running the 10km in the European championships. Based on how she races, I wouldn't be surprised if she shoots for 30 minutes. It certainly seems possible to me....
-
According to my post on Dyestat, the km splits were 2:59, 2:54, 2:55, 2:52, 2:51, so she negative-split it like crazy. Wish she had some to race against. And she is doubling (5000/10000) at Euros.
