Depends on what happens in the next few years. Bekele potentially has a few more years (10 if he's like Geb), so we'll just have to wait and see.

Depends. On the track, it's Geb. He's basically faster at all distances except for a couple seconds at 5000 and 10000. They've both won 4x WC and 2xOly at 10000. If KB were to regain his previous form and put together another year or two of track domination (along with another gold or two), then you'd have to give this to KB. Right now the decision is on a knife's edge.
In XC, there is no doubt it's KB. No point in even trying to compare the two.
Moving on to roads, it's Geb again, and I get the feeling that KB won't have the same success on the road. I'd love to be wrong though.
So that's 2-1 Geb.

Too early to tell. Geb still has a few more years left on the roads and KB (hopefully) has several years left.
Bekele has already surpassed Geb in his events: 5k, 10k and XC. Bekele has the WRs. He has the same amount 10k golds but also has two 5k golds which geb doesn't have. When is the last time Bekele lost a 10k? XC is obvious who is better. Bekele hasn't tried the roads yet so we shall see. He still some years left on the track. Given that Bekele has already outproduced Geb in championships and bettered his world records it is simply not logical to claim Geb is the greatest of all time. He is a VERY close second for now.

Well, Bekele did try that 15k on the roads a couple of years ago, but DNF or shutdown early because his leg broke. It's worth noting that he was waaaaaaaay under the wr pace at 10k. He would have shattered that record and won the race had his leg not broken. How many people can use that excuse and have it be true lol
Then I clarify that he hasn't competed on the roads on a regular basis or as a primary focus. Sucks about breaking his leg during a potential WR race. I don't think there is much debate that he could be a monster on the roads.
Neither of them go down as greatest of all time. Paul Tergat was very imoressive in Sidney at the '00 games, and also allways finished his races, un like many ethipoians. Geb is simplee a time triler and Bekele has not even done some things on this track yet. As of now I would probamly say that Tergat is the GOAT.

We have yet to see. As someone previously stated, Geb has his 1500 and 3000 indoor titles, as well as pretty fast times for those, but I think Bekele will surpass him once he gets back into better shape. I say he's got another 2-3 years left on the track, maybe 4. From that 15k road post earlier, I no longer doubt that he'd be excellent on the road.

If we were talking about 1609.344 and down (maybe 3000), then you would be right. But we're not, so no.

Good call, Danny. Slap that rieti link

I love Tergat, my all time favorite distance runner.
But you are an idiot if you truly think he is the GOAT.
Nourredine Morceli!
General running community: Geb
Knowledgeable running community: Bekele
Here's my "modern" list:
Bekele
Geb
El G
Tergat
Komen
Sihine (best second-placer ever)

the "knowledgeable running community" eh? that makes that community seem pretty stupid.
the whole post is moot without parameters. GOAT of what? distance runners? if we are truly judging the "greatest of all time" for distance runners then we must take the entire spectrum of distance running into consideration: 1500m to the Marathon. That undoubtedly gives Geb the title as he has held world records across that spectrum.
Bekele is amazing and clearly the best 3000m-10000m runner of all time. but until he ventures into 20k-42.2km then he can't really be considered. he has way too many "not applicable" categories...you can't even say he is better than Tergat until he progresses to dominate that next level of endurance/distance running.
again, what part does longevity and competitive dominance play? Haile's career is beyond comprehension. when you compare the Komens, El Gs, Tergats, etc....they've punched out while Geb just keeps hammering.

Except for 5000 and 10000??? Those are their most important events.

What are you smoking my man? "He's basically faster at all distances except a couple seconds at 5 and 10k". Well ok let's try this, "Bekele is basically faster at all distances except a couple of seconds at 1500". Over XC is a non event, as Bekele is without doubt the GOAT there. He hasn't run on the roads much but he was on for a crazy time in that 15k race before his leg broke. If Bekele comes back and wins in Daegu and then takes London next year he's deffo top dog. If he then goes on to run 2:02 or something daft then he's a level above the rest. He's never lost a 10k ffs.
