But a long ways from 3:53.
A TREMENDOUS achievement!
I add the following, NOT as a putdown to LV, but simply for a little historical perspective:

We're talking 1965; dirt track; strictly in-State high school competition; leading all the way; an American--and 3:58.3. Can you understand why Ryun was godlike to some of us back then?
Nevertheless, don't get me wrong: GREAT JOB, LUKAS VERZBICAS!
Ryun didn't break 9, he sucked.

Whoa! Tough crowd!
yeah lukas V!!! great race.
Verzbicas is now hands down the greatest high school runner
Double champ at footlocker
First to ever do the nike-footlocker double
NR in 2 mile, 3000m, and indoor 5000m.
5th high schooler to break 4
First to ever do the triple at indoor nats
If he wanted to he could break Rupp's NR in the 5000m if he ran USA nats, but he's already proven himself to be the greatest. All he needed was a sub 4 mile which he now has

Lukas has the National Record in the 3000m??
I'm guessing his split would have come from his 8:29 2mile but is it official?? And if so, what was his time??
Also, I'm not quite sure that he would be able to pull a 13:37 in the 5k. His PR for Indoors was 14:06, and although he did spend it basically running alone and lapping other runners, taking the outdoor record would require almost a 30-second drop in time.
Lukas V in my opinion is the greatest high school runner in US History. I am sure others feel the same way after he obliterated the 2 mile record and today went on to win the mile in sub four fashion. He could take down Rupps 5000 meter record as well if he wanted to. I think he will be a great 5000,10000 guy which I think should be his specialties when he becomes a pro. Olympic Champ 2016!
Rupp did not win Footlocker a single time, ran a 4:01 mile and an 8:4x 2 mile.
Lukas ran footlocker TWICE, and NXN (showing maybe better strength than a high school senior Rupp), ran a 3:59 mile, and an 8:29 2 mile, which converts to a 7:54 3000. Most college runners that can run 3:50 and 7:53 while possessing cross country strength can break 13:37. Actually, like all of them. Those times basically equal Andrew Bumbalough's career PRs in college, and he ran 13:30 in college.
LV is just ridiculous.
- No age verification (I would guess LV is about 21-23 years old)
- Not an American citizen
Sorry, but I just can't get excited about this.
yeah he definitely looks like someone in his early 20s...idiot he looks like he's 15
Don't forget: Second (after Ryun) to go sub-4 in an all-HS race.
german fernandez has the best double ever...imo, still the best h.s.er ever.
too bad he didn't run in the same type of races as lukas. we'll see if lukas wins ncaa as a frosh or runs 13:25. see you in a year!
Actually, he was 1 year older than his peers his first 3 years. He reminded the media to be aware of this fact when comparing him to his peers. Then last summer and his senior year he took an accelerated high school curriculum. When he graduated high school his age matched that of the other graduates.

Jim Ryun's still the best.
Good God. Why not just savor the fact that an American boy ran sub-4:00?!
LV is not American.

I seriously dont understand how some people think. This kid is an amazing runner regardless of where he was born or what country he came from. The kid is "Americanized" now. He speaks English with an American accent. He is going represent the US at the Olympics if he makes the team. This however will never be good enough for some people. For every 10 people that like this kid there are 2 or 3 that pray for his fall. We live in a world where we would rather see someone fail because it makes us feel better. We should be lifting each other up when we do things with our extraordinary abilities. Yet we bring each other down because of our own envious ways. So sad. Oh and another thing. About 90% of America is made up of families that Immigrated to America years ago. So please shut the f*** up. Only NATIVE AMERICANS can claim America as their true homeland.

Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
